In this video I take you step by step through the process of using high speed sync flash to overcome daylight. This powerful technique can transform a subject lit with the flat light of mid-day sun into a dramatic contrasty image.
Whether it’s studio flash, speedlight, strobe, or daylight, I show how you can produce a high impact visual art photograph.
Plus, some tips and tricks in Photoshop to help things along a little.
I'll show you the iterations from basic image to completed photograph.

The horses seem to like your photos too. As soon as you said you were done they disappeared. Another fine video, thank you.
  • Great to watch a process explained in detail and without any theatrics as so many videos are these days; an absolute pleasure to view, thank you.

Thank you very much for teaching us. Thanks again for the clone technique, sampling from one layer and cloning it in the other layer. Best wishes for you and your team.

Very nice video, thank you sir! -Jay.
  • Nice! After some if needed editing in LR6, I do the same type of editing in Affinity Photo as you do in PS. Besides the flash dropping out the ambient light, it also helps freeze the subject which is usually moving around when shooting outdoors.

If you spray a thistle with fry lite it can be abit sticky

Hi, should have taken scissors to the field and made a thistle hairstyle right in the field, with black velvet behind it.. Then Photoshop would not have been useful.
  • Why would you do such a stupid thing and destroy any semblance of a decent image into a horrible, flat, flashed to death shot?
