Bad lore is not uncommon. Many games have lore that is downright awful. But I can not think of a game that started off so good and then completely lost it's way to the tune of a triple A budget. When it comes to lore, @Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is a very strange case. It's wonky, ineffective, and fails to reach it's audience. But before it's sharp decline, it had a promising beginning. In fact many still look back on it's old direction quite fondly. So what went wrong? This is how Siege's decision to abandon it's roots in favor of appealing to a non existent crowd caused it to write the most pathetic and forgettable lore in modern gaming. I'd be interested to know of a modern game that spent so much money on such a universally ignored universe. #rainbowsixsiege

I always find it funny to imagine all the fans paid for tickets to watch a building, because there’s no indication they can see what’s going on inside the stadium building

An anti terrorist team being turned into a paintball esports team sounds like the plot of a south park episode

Deimos is real af, just said “Rainbow use to be cool and now it sucks” and kills the guy that made it the dumb Olympics

"Most players are too distracted with the amazing gameplay" Is this gameplay in the room with us?
  • @torakazu2269
They say that the servers are maintained purely by the energy created by the speeds Tom Clancy achieves by rolling around in his grave.
  • Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to give an anti terrorist game an anime Tournament Arc?
  • @kentreed2011
E-sports and it's consequences were a disaster to PvP shooters.

Back when the stadium cinematic dropped I remember thinking "oh that's cool, the Six Invitational is right around the corner, so they made this cinematic to hype up the event, having the pro players and their passion represented by the very operators." Never in a million years would I have thought that that was actually canon but here we are

The fact that this is all connected to the Splinter Cell canon and Sam is spending his retirement coaching operators for e-sports is also pretty crazy.
  • @Noperare
An anti-terrorist secret agency becoming airsoft sport celebrities is the dumbest story I ever heard. Like, not even fun B-movie dumb, just plain dumb.
  • @lasermanso
remember when ''Tom Clancy's'' meant grounded narative and feeling ''it could have happend '' ? been decades since i did
  • @RouGeZH
Tom Clancy must be rolling in his grave. It's the biggest "F YOU" to the source material that I've ever seen.
  • Rainbow Six Siege is a game where most of the time I thought smoke's gas was the same as the white masks.
  • @sate2801
    >this is why rainbow is formed >this is what you all been trained for >OLYMPIC DOORBREACHING
  • Jesus Christ, I had no idea where the lore went after outbreak
  • 3:31 You can get demonetized for saying “Terrorist” now ? What happens if you were playing Counter Strike and the announcer says “Counter Terrorists win” ?
  • Reminder that there is canonically a story in the R6 universe where Ash, Tachanka, Blitz, Frost, Ela, Iana, Fuze and Doc were transported to anime Narnia and Ash becomes a catgirl in that story.
  • @mysticone2112
The fact they wrote an entire explanation to justify having a super secretive elite military counter terrorist force be an esport team and use that as a jumping off point in the story instead of just saying its all non canon scenario is wild.
  • Probably my biggest gripe, besides the tourney revealing the identities of Rainbow Operatives, was Operation Chimera. Doc was somehow allowed to make a decision over his head, that nearly resulted in the whole world getting infected and turned, just because he disapproved of a nuclear device being used to stop it. Some of the operatives are humanitarians, when they shouldn't be, and it's stupid.
  • Deimos could’ve been a 1v5 mode, with Deimos having a bunch of buffs, like higher health, full knowledge of openets, and a base that had a lookout and maybe a drone or cannon or smth
