About Smooth Jazz Music:

Pandora says:
"Smooth Jazz boasts the kinds of saxophone players who lean back when they hit those high notes ... jazz that's smoother than silk pajamas."

jazzradio.com says:
"Smooth as butter. This is Jazz that flows like water, laid back and pleasing to the ear."

allmusic.com says:
"Smooth Jazz is an outgrowth of fusion, one that emphasizes its polished side. Generally, smooth jazz relies on rhythms and grooves instead of improvisation. There are layers of synthesizers, lite-funk rhythms, lite-funk bass, elastic guitars, and either trumpets, alto, or soprano saxophones."

urbandictionary.com says:
"The kind of music played on The Weather Channel."
and
"A niche form of pop music that is appreciated by people who don't like jazz. They think it sounds cool to be a smooth jazz listener and don't realize that it's not jazz at all. To paraphrase Mark Twain, the difference between jazz and smooth jazz is like the diffference between lightning and a lightning bug."
and
"A musical genre characterized by bland instrumental watered-down jazz; the soundtrack for men in between mid-life-crisises. Every city has a radio station devoted to this brand of ambient droning -- usually called 'The Oasis.' " (I especially like that one.)

And Wikipedia says:
"Smooth jazz is a commercially oriented, crossover jazz which came to prominence in the 1980s, displacing the more venturesome jazz fusion from which it emerged. It avoids the improvisational "risk-taking" of jazz fusion, emphasizing melodic form. Much of the music was initially "a combination of jazz with easy-listening pop music and lightweight R&B" "

If it's smooth and it's jazzy? It's Smooth Jazz. So say I, the Dr.

I turned 70 in November 2023. I have been a musician most of my life, early days on the road in a 7 piece band doing Chicago, BS&T, Doobies, Average White Band, etc. But my escape, my meditation, my pondering life is what you bring into my existance. I love sax, and traditional jazz. And here I just stumbled across this while listening to a great Take 6 style group. Now this is my escape and relaxation from the busy world we live in. Music is more than just sound. It is a journey through time and space. I wish I had found this 3 years ago.
  • I just lost my husband of 40+ years three weeks ago. We so enjoyed listing to jazz, drinking wine, him Maker's Mark :) , chatting, laughing enjoying each other's company. I am back at work on my lunch listening to you! Thanks so much...... I can remember and will continue to Remember. I have taken the deep breathe and I know I can continue to open my heart and love. Thank You

  • I WAS INTRODUCED TO JAZZ BY THE LOVE OF MY LIFE 40YRS. AGO. JAZZ HAS BEEN VERY INSTRUMENTAL IN MY LIFE HELPING ME THROUGH SOME TOUGH TIMES. WE HAVE SOME AWESOME JAZZ PLAYERS. I GREW UP IN THE NAJEE ERA OF JAZZ. BE BLESSED EVERYBODY.
  • Jazz is smooth and cool. Jazz is rage. Jazz flows like water. Jazz never seems to begin or end. Jazz isn't methodical, but jazz isn't messy either. Jazz is a conversation, a give and take. Jazz is connection and communication. Jazz is abandon...And with Mark at the sax, I'm totally in abandon. Thank you.

  • At office and drinking coffee, am enjoy my day with good and wonderful jazz music (mercy mercy ) This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it .
  • My dad's friend owns a jazz bar, and the music is amazing. This sounds like exactly something the band would play- one time I even got to perform “I’m beginning to see the light”, “fly me to the moon” and many others with a sax player, a trumpet player, a pianist, a drummer, and a bassist. It was probably one of the best experiences in my life. Jazz has a way of making you feel like you're on top of the world. Love the compilation and hope the 1% reading this has a great day
  • "Among jazz chords, my mind slides on an endless journey, where each note is a whisper of serenity that caresses my being." A hug for all of us who share moments of solitude through the magic of Jazz!
