We only have three acres but we have six layers, two steers and a good sized garden. We can (water bath), and freeze so far. I am looking at dehydrators now. Even this small farm is a lot of work.
  • Amen! I have always thought that we can't go to sleep and forget the "old ways" of how our ancestors lived and dealt with problems. I'm always looking to find better ways to garden, preserve food, and utilize what I already have. Great info. Thank you! Texas Deb ❤️😁

Another great video. Hurricane Ida taught me not to rely on freezers. My whole house generator was damaged by a 1 ton fence. Thank God I use multiple ways of preserving food. God bless y’all for teaching us ways to take care of ourselves and our family. 🥰🐇🐥🐖🐂

I wanted to grow old tiny flint corn like Indian corn, and saw how a guy used decoration corn and found a great little corn, but small. I went to my local produce store to shop in early fall and they had the nicest dried corn in three cob bundles. They were different colors, long ears, and good kernel shape. I bought a couple bunches and placed the cobs in the freezer. The next spring we planted one and a half cob worth of kernels. It grew about 14 feet tall, produced two large cobs each. We found it to be excellent for chicken feed plus grits, corn flour, meal, etc.
  • I 💯% agree!!! As I see more changes going on around us. Prices climbing is making it even more important to grow my garden, chickens, etc. I retired four years ago debt free. This allows me to live on my retirement.
  • @CaponeCabin
Totally correct. I preach all the time about how our ancestors farmed

Perfectly said. We are doing all the things, Chickens ducks goats cows and we are learning about tintures and medicinal herbs. I ferment a small amount of feed for my chickens, not that they need it they are free range. The garden is double what it was last year, 200 x 40. It’s a lot of work but we do what we can each day.

Amen....so true...I live in UK so just have a normal home but we do not eat processed food...we eat healthy..I grow my own veg as best I can...I dont have land so I grow in tubs and pots and trench tubs...
  • You are absolutely right when you say, “the powers that be are not looking out for us”. It’s a rude awakening for our country to see how quickly things can come apart. We need to be praying for our country and praying that eyes will be opened to the depths that evil has infiltrated our nation. Today, times are hard but they can and they will get much worse if we don’t stand up and say no more. As a Christian I believe that God is sovereign and nothing happens that is outside of his control. I also believe that what man intends for evil, God will use for good. In times such as these, I see the work you’re doing along with so many others as helpful, educational, timely and overall good. Thank you, may the Lord continue to impress upon you what He desires for you and your families lives.

Oh dear man I wish I had done what you did 40 years ago I'm 65 I'm in a wheelchair there's no chance for me anymore to have a homestead no matter how hard I pray it's very depressing but I do enjoy watching your videos even though it hurts but I don't have the wonderful life as you and your family do God bless and take care
  • Right now I am living off $750.00 and my Rabbits, chickens, Turkeys and now,Qual had to change because of disability and making it because of you people and the faced my house has never had a mortgage best thing I did got my 2 trees milled up and built my house total cost back then was around 20,000
  • Colby, you're a champion!💪🏅You share such EPIC knowledge!💡 Thank you for always looking out for us!🤗 They were all awesome tips! Especially the stellar tip on moving the animals at days end because of the dewy grass!😉🏆 Jennings says it's too muddy "over there".😄 I'm sure he's right.😁😉 We love y'all SO much!🤗😚💞 God bless The Mac's! 🙏
  • @janetcamron6263
Great points in this video. I have my garden and my chickens. With my health and my hubby's health we can't do much more than that. In the last few years I have learned how to freeze and can stuff from the garden. There is always more than what we'll eat so we share it with our families. I love all your videos and have learned so much. Thank you.
  • I LOVE that you are realistic in that animal feed may be unavailable for one reason or another and that self-sufficiency is about not needing to bring in feed for ourselves or our animals!
  • Great video and I totally agree. I have canned beans, home canned beans and dry beans. I have frozen veggies, canned veggies and freeze dried veggies. I have fruit trees, canned fruit, home canned fruit, frozen fruit and freeze dried fruit.it’s good to have back ups for your backups. I am able to have a garden most of the year so that also helps
