In this video we show just how far a 45 ACP is capable of retaining enough energy to cause a possible fatal would. We were only able to connect at long range with the 230gr Federal American Eagle FMJ loads on the pine board. We did fire a very limited number of the 230gr Federal HST loading at our Clear Ballistics Torso with no success. We will revisit the subject of expansion and penetration at range in a future video. Stay tuned.

  • I'm a Nam Vet, 45acp is my all time fav and to see this video abolished the old school thought of 30ft max out the window..HOLY CRAP..440 yrds even with the carbine threw me back in my chair. 2oo yrds with the cz90, WOW. Now I would never throw lead at someone at more than 5 or 6 yrds let alone try at 100 yrds. I'm totally in awe of the duties that round showed. Thanks so much for giving this old Vet a new perspective of the value of the 45acp 230 gr ball..I love mine more now than ever. Now I start giving the range 50 to 100 yrds  distance a workout.

  • WOW! Subbed. Hitting a human-sized target with a .45 ACP handgun at 200 yards is damned impressive!

I like my 9mm for concealment and my 45 for home defense. Both are good rounds.

Thanks for proving my faith in the old .45ACP! I too am a Vietnam Vet, and I carried a .45 for most of my Police Career, from the time I could afford to furnish my own weapon, giving up the Model 19 Smith in .357 Mag was a pleasure, and of course my scores at the range increased due to the decrease in recoil, the single action only smoooooth trigger on my M1911A1. Being a patrolman back in the early 70's and living on the $400.00 per month, I could not afford the top of the line firearm, so I purchased an Interarms Silver Cup, which was just surplus parts built up on a cheap frame by Interarms. She made a pretty good firearm out of the box, but I added a nice over-travel adjustable sculpted trigger and some very nice rubber wrap around grips because carrying a firearm in the frozen Dakota's winter can be a problem when the temps drop below zero. I sold the old warhorse to my brother-in-law about 30 years ago, he sold it about 5 years back for a thousand bucks, so I guess the old gun held her value. I had polished her up and re-blued her back when I was working with a gunsmith in the early 90's, so she looked great. Today I still carry a modified M1911A1, still the cheapscape, I opted for the Citadel General Officer model clone, she shoots pretty well but I am sure she looses some velocity with the shortened barrel. I have over the years carried off duty a Star PD, which I really liked, so when I saw the little Citadel on a table at a gun show I could not pass it up.

Pease continue this series with more calibers. It is always very interesting.
  • @Pfsif
Let's take cover behind this 1/2" pine board, we'll be safe here.
  • @preacherF-15
That was fascinating. I had never even attempted a 200 yard shot with a 1911-esque pistol. After watching this, I grabbed a completely unmodified colt WWII vintage 1911 from my gun room and went down to my rifle range. I set up at 200 yards and did what you did, put a steel silhouette behind the target for some audible feedback. I was very surprised at the outcome...after about 8 magazines, I finally got in the groove. I was able to hit center mass on a standard police target, 8 out of 8 times! My grouping was erratic, but just the fact that there WAS grouping was rather astonishing. I expected 45 ball to behave unpredictably at that distance, but it was actually very controllable. I think with practice a guy could get reasonably good at extreme distance pistol shooting. I had a great time playing with the idea, anyway! Thanks for the great video. Keep em coming!
  • @thebatski
.45 acp has always been my gold standard.
  • When I shoot at DISTANCE... I leave the front sight in PROPER, then just DROP the rear sight till you are on .
  • @hawks1ish
I assume the only time you would need to make a 200 yard pistol shot is if your rifle ran out of ammunition and your name is Jason Bourne or Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Now you need to use Paul Harrell's "meat target". ("You be the judge") 😄
  • @jerrynewman1380
    I'm glad u showed me this test..I've always wondered what a 45 would do....thank u
  • @buick4013
Great deal guys. This gives people an idea of how deadly these projectiles are and to be sure of your back stop. Ball ammo is deadly stuff.
  • @jdrseven
I was very impressed with myself hitting a target about that size at 130yds, handheld, with my 1911. Then you went and did it upside-down at 200. Way to go, man!
  • If a 45 acp projectile touches you before it touches the ground. You will sustain severe damage lol
  • Love these videos!!!! So interesting the trajectory of different calibers and how they impact down range.... Keep it up!
