In the modern political world, the terms ‘left-wing’ and ‘right-wing’ can often be heard and misunderstood. But what do these terms mean and where do they come from? The terms Left and Right were first used in an ideological context during the French Revolution of the 18th century. Those on the left were in support of the revolution and those on the right supported the monarchy. This idea of the left supporting change and the right wanting to keep the status quo continues today and is key in some of their philosophy.

I'm already getting a headache. I'll never bound myself with politics ever again.

I think that terms of right-wing and left-wing should be abandoned, since they are too general and often create misunderstandings. There are at least 3 spectrums of values, that should be taken into consideration: Culture and Values (Liberal - Conservative) Economic (Socialist - Capitalist) State Authority (Totalitarian - Libertarian)

The left is when the government does stuff. Except when it's not. The right is when there's a focus on individual freedom. Except when it's not - This video

Regardless of what you believe, if you approach a political discussion with hostility, you're in the wrong.

RIGHT WING - ECONOMIC FREEDOM/MORAL AUTHORITY. LEFT WING - MORAL FREEDOM/ECONOMIC AUTHORITY.
  • @bl88er
Laughing that hillary clinton is on the left in the image 🤣🙃

I think the best way to sum it up is: The right values stability, even if those at the bottom have to pay the price. They generally favor the status quo. The left values equality, even if they risk losing stability. Authoritarians value order, even if it means sacrificing privacy, and individuality. Libertarians value personal freedom, even at the cost of stability, order, etc. Most people are somewhere on the spectrum rather than on an extreme end of it. I’m glad he went into the 2-D chart because 1-D spectrums always fail. They represent libertarianism for example (supporting gay marriage before democrats, opposing corporate welfare, anti war) as being somehow further right than conservatism. The 2-D model just makes more sense.
