First example of Y-under-14 hyper-efficient mob farm. (why Y-under-14? watch the video for explanation).

This is a fifth episode in my series - 'Fun Farms', where I am taking one mob at a time and showing unique farms based around some interesting game mechanics.

Ultra-efficient, Passive (Peaceful) Mob farm. 2000 Animals (180 Horses) for 5000 Spawning Spaces / hour but you can scale it up as long as your computer (server) is OK with it. Needs a little bit of TNT (I used 2 double chests in my world), otherwise, pretty cheap to build too. I guess as server friendly as flush based mob farm can ever be, but with 5000 spawning spaces I didn't encounter any dropped ticks (unlike with my previous 37k spaces design). CPU was spiking from 3% to 8% on the server (Vanilla 1.8.8) (max 12%, (8 core machine)) when the water was flushing (AMD old cheap-o processor). 1.9 Snapshots server had less luck (spikes up to max 12%, but no dropped ticks either). Should be better once the production 1.9 comes out. Preferable client: Optifine with water animations turns off (barely noticeable frame drops). Vanilla 1.8 client (no ability of turning water animations off) - significant frames dropped (up to 10FPS at occasion). Vanilla snapshot 1.9 client: no comments (1-2 fps). However - client performance doesn't affect server performance, so that's ok. Looking up into the sky while the farm is running fixes the issue.

+Extra analysis of changes in natural spawning in Minecraft 1.8.8 based on MCP code base (MCP 9.18) (comparing to previous versions of Minecraft). It seems from the experiments, that it didn't change so far in 1.9.

excellent farm. huge improvement from the last one. I remember doing the netherrack trick with hopper minecarts for slimes once and lost a lot of the drops. Maybe I did something wrong :)
  • @Pineapplecake
I love that with your research, you don't make assumptions, but test yourself what is and isn't true.
  • @Jona69
The classical music really makes these videos.
  • @finfan7
This is so dense. This is like Minecraft Nietzsche. I had to pause and rewind repeatedly to let each part sink in.
  • @gothrung4086
this is one of the best technical minecraft videos i've ever seen. so thorough. you are great :)
  • @RaysWorks
Very well presented! I can tell you did a lot of testing to make this video. If the background music's volume was lower it would make it a bit easier to hear your voice over it.
  • @theSumanDatta25
You're the most passionate Minecraft content creator on this site, your videos really echo back to old school Minecraft channels where everything was done by trial and error. I hope you never dumb down your content, I love it.
  • @Unarybit
Awesome farm. Very impressive work with the way you have tested, explained and presented it. I know the "minecraft stuff", but I must say I have learned a few things here. Your channel is highly informative, very cool :)
  • @aminto9448
Love how you put so much research and time into these videos. I'll definitely be building this in my survival world soon
  • @mystermistery
Very impressive. I'm really enjoying your farm series, I like the amount of detail you provide, and how systematically you approach these designs. Really looking forward to more in the future!
  • Actually impressive, nice job! and thank you for sharing this with the community
  • @karsonm.5787
Wow! Im amazed by both the farm and the video! my favorite thing to do in minecraft is maximize efficiency in farm designs and you have certainly done that here! Ive been watching xisuma for a while now and he says lots of great things about your farms/videos and now i see why! Keep up the fantastic work! :p
  • @GeneralStoreBob
Holy! This has... no it is the best minecraft tutorial I have ever seen!
  • @wkrepelin
I built a passive mob farm based on your research and design on PS4 and, I must say, it works extremely well. with just 2 9x9 cells with 2 spawning floors I was able to generate 24 stacks of meat in an hour. since console has extremely strict breeding limits (70 passive mobs in loaded chunks and they will no longer breed) this method is the only way to get large amounts of meat in little time. this is also one to e that the console completely lacking any form of spawn chunks is actually a blessing. Thanks so much for your many contributions to the MC community at large.
  • @2491kridge
Awesome job with this one such a huge improvement from the previous design, i'm amazed seeing a farm that tiny only one chunk large and it can yield that many drops
  • @TDLmc
Not much to say about this farm, it is perfect for small survival worlds that want their food fast! :P The quality of this video and the commentary was great, is awesome to see you improving on every video! Now is only left to find the fastest design possible based on the mechanics. Actually never thought about spawn interference, have to look deeper into that.
  • @nek1981
A joy to watch its impressive cheers for the time spent ;)
  • @MorgurEdits
I will put this to my important stuff list and sub to you. This video was beautiful.
  • @Charcoal111
Wow this is amazing!!! thanks for making the video, i learned a lot
