😀 In Tokyo’s downtown area Tsukishima, famous for its monja-yaki (savoury pancakes),
African spurred tortoise Bon-chan and its owner Mr. Mitani are going for a walk through
the area’s shopping street since 13 years.
Bon-chan is not only popular among local residents, tourists also love the adorable turtle,
with large crowds gathering every time.
For a while now, Mr. Mitani has even prepared pamphlets in English for foreign visitors.

"However, since Bon-chan will live much longer than me, I have to find a new owner soon" made me sad

Turtles live a really long time. You have to dedicated to take care of one. My turtle is 60 years old I am 70 got him on my 10th birthday he has seen the world with me and the help of my family and yes he is my family also.

Dude is casually walking down the streets of Japan with his own pokemon. Incredible.

That man's candor about his pet living longer than him, and the necessity of finding him a new care taker speaks volumes to how much he loves his pet, and how good of a person he is.
  • Imagine growing up with that exquisite creature and then taking over it's care when your parents pass away. Only to then raise your children with it and let them care for him as they get older too. One of these guys can live through 3 generations of a family and it's so beautiful to think about that. The legacy of love that can survive in creatures like this is astounding and I adore our world for it. <3

1:18 this part hit me. I hope the new owner treats Bon-Chan with love and respect like this man, and give him all the food and exercise he need/wants

I'm not crying...yeah, yeah I am. I'm so happy to see a reptile getting the love they deserve with the perfect human for them. Warms my soul.

Hundreds of years later... "Bon Sensei, who was your master?" "My master? Hmm... Yes, I remember. His name was Mitani-san, he was a kind old man who raised me as their son. We would take walks together and meet all kinds of people. We may not be related, but I still see him as my true father. When we meet again, I hope he's willing to take a few walks with me in the afterlife."

Other people: This ring is my family heritage, has been in my family for centuries. His grandson: This tortoise is my family heritage, has been with my family for centuries.
  • @flourella4538
Additional information to subtitles: Bon-chan himself chooses his own walking course. There have been three routes but his current favourite is the shopping street.

Omg when he showed a baby picture of Bon-chan on his phone 😍😭

The way he speaks uninhibited about his own mortality is a wisdom that’s imbedded in the Japanese culture. Extremely wise people.
