The Invasion of Southern Sumatra was a battle of the Pacific theatre of World War II. It occurred near Palembang, on Sumatra, on 13–15 February 1942. The Royal Dutch Shell oil refineries at nearby Pladju were the major objectives for the Empire of Japan in the Pacific War, because of an oil embargo imposed on Japan by the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. With the area's abundant fuel supply and airfield, Palembang offered significant potential as a military base to both the Allies and the Japanese.

In this video, you will find animated map of the details of invasion operation by the Japanese empire and The Allied defence. The Invasion of Southern Sumatra is often overlooked in the history book and one of the forgotten campaigns in Pacific Theather.

Thank you for taking the time to present a well laid out and superbly archived history of these WW2 operations. You've added a great deal towards the understanding of this overlooked area of WW2 history.

This channel is great! A level of production higher than some of the best channels around. The robot voice is actually not bad, seems like they have been improved over the years. Although, the first video I came across I almost skipped because of the robot voice. Glad I didn't! You should narrate the videos yourself or get somebody else to.
Also I was wondering if you could go into depth of other theatres, like the Sino-Japanese front as it is a theater you don't hear about. Also, the downfall of the axis in 1944-1945 would be a cool topic. WWI maybe? A video on the Japanese invasion of German Pacific islands?
    Just making suggestions.
I'll be keeping my eye on your channel my friend keep up the good work!

Thanks, this is the first time I have a clear picture of the assault . Usually history text consists of 2 liner to cover this . It would says , the Japanese paratrooper , paradrop into Palembang and capture it. Lol if you are lucky you get to see a picture or 2 of the paradrop.
  • 1:45 let me corected...there are two oil refineries in palembang....Plaju (pladjoe) and sungai gerong (sungi gerong) sungai means river in english....operated by BPM (pladjoe) n KNPM (sungai gerong) it's separated by komering river...

Excellent! I would just like to see the spelling on the maps tweaked.. "Austrarlia" was in at least two videos and this one had "Thaland". Not a big deal but a way to make a small important improvement.. love, smarty pants <3

    I enjoy these videos.
However will there be more made about later events? Say past 43?
  • It amazes me how ill prepared the alies were at the start of WW 2
  • The most glaring example of bad pronunciation was "Archibald" whose last name was Wavell. It should be "Arch-a-bald" although I might be wrong on the second syllable.
  • @alfianHaritama
