Lots of Questions about the switches I'm using. They are BHOnofre.

Thumbs-up from anyone else that still has devices called "Test" 👍
  • Heres a tip from a Low Voltage Technician.
The Cen-Tech Cable Tracker from Harbor Freight can probably map out those Ethernet Cables. Just plug the Tone generator into one of the Ethernet Jacks and use the Probe on the jungle of cables. When you find it just hold the Probe away while still on and touch the tip of the wire and your Body will let the signal travel so you know for sure it's the correct cable. You can also use those little cable marker stickers and then write it down on a piece of paper.

Doc, you need to get those google wifi devices on a wired backhaul. With all that ethernet sitting in that cabinet it would be so easy.
  • THANKYOU DrZzs for showing us all, that we are not the only ones having half baked solutions :-) I showed the video to my wife, and I think I got a temporary repreive for some of the projects :-D

I prefer touch-buttons to 2-state switches (eg the Sonoff touch series), primarily because it means that on the way out of the house I can do a 'tap and hold' on the light switch and it will turn all of the lights in the house off rather than just operating the one switch. Having that extra input ('hold') is really quite useful.
  • Haha, I love (and hate) how you have a lot of 90% done projects spread around the house. I don't know why, but I imagined that your home automation's was perfect

    Congrats on 50k!
I've recently discovered/subbed to your channel and love how you explain everything in so much depth, but (above all) keeping it fun and easy to learn.

    Keep up the excelent work!

  • @AlexWolkov
Great overview of a jaggernaut of smart homes, and I was happy to see that some automation usages I replicated in my own home as well!

Congrats on the 50k subs! This channel (as well as Rob's Hook Up) are my primary inspirations for moving my home automation from Smart Things over to HA. The challenge (for me) is not necessarily the technical details in migrating from one to the other but the "design" / planning / identifying which parts are appropriate for automation and which parts are not, etc.
