How I create backgrounds using Neocolor II's | Adult Coloring

Published 2024-02-25
In today's video I go into more detail about how I create backgrounds and the types of paper best suited for using Neocolor II's. I've had a few requests and questions on this topic, so I created a video that will hopefully be helpful!

Let me know if you have any questions! I'd be happy to help!

Here's a quick short on how I save my Neo II shavings...

  • Hi Folks! I just wanted to add a note to the part where I discussed Neo II's on Kerby Rosanes books...I think they work ok, you just have to add multiple layers and do a little more work, is all. 😉
  • Nice demonstration with Neocolor ii’s. I have a set and get frustrated with them, but now that I see how you work them Im ready to try again.

What a beautifully detailed tutorial. Thank you!

Wow, this is such a great tutorial. I love how you showed the whole process, and how you explained it step by step. It's perfect timing for me. I'm getting ready to start a page in Hanna Karlzon's Daydreams book, and I want to try using the Neocolors for the first time as background. Love your channel. I have learned so much from you!🥰💖🧡💚💙💜

Hi, I just watched your video and when you shared your inspiration picture I thought: wow, that looks very similar to mine… It really took me a moment to realize that it WAS actually my coloring 😂 I‘m happy it has inspired you and I‘m proud to be featured in your video! 😁

I love this demo! I, too, am afraid of my Neo IIs. Do you always color background first? I think that’s one of the my struggles. I always just dive into the image first.

I love the way you are fading the music in and out of the tutorial. The verbiage, however, is most important to help us understand what you are doing. The explanations are so, so helpful. You have found a great blend of music and information. Thank you for sharing your talents with us
  • Oh my goodness, Jen! This tutorial is amazing! I love my neo ii's but have struggled with them a bit, and now I can't wait to try your techniques. I think I've been over-blending and also over-watering the page for sure. Oof! I appreciate you taking the time to make this video for us. 💖💖💖

If you are using two layers of ModPoge you won’t have any problems of using Neocolor II or any watercolor mediums! 😊

Hi Jen great information ❤ I’m still struggling with back grounds they just aren’t my favorite things to do 😂 but I’m playing with them more and more 😂❤
  • Jen thank you so much for this video!!! I have been using mine in Millie Marotta’s books, the Eriy books and as you said in both Hannah Karlzon and Marie Trolle books! I love your backgrounds and have used your techniques a good deal!!! Thank you!

I learned so much from this tutorial. I just own a set of 10 neocolonr iis. I have struggled when trying to use them. Mostly I have tried to use them on Amazon paper. Yesterday I tried to do a background in a Lulu Mayo page. I realize now that the color was soaking into the page and the color would not move well. I have been debating buying a larger set of neolocolor iis, but have been afraid to do so. I now think it might be a good idea. I can always print a picture that is on a lesser quality paper onto a mixed media paper, a watercolor paper or a Bristol paper. Thank you so much for this thorough tutorial!😊
  • Really good video! ❤❤ I love them for backgrounds. I’ve never tried clouds so appreciate your tutorial. I also really like how if you accidentally get color in a place you don’t want in a Hana Karlzon book you can lift up the color with the water brush. Versus the Kerby books where the color is soaking in more.

Thanks for you video. Question: could you tell me what you put in the Pinterest search engine to find your reference picture for your background. Sometimes I have a hard time finding a reference picture for ideas.

Thank you for this tutorial. I am going to give them a go again and see if I can work them better than in the past. It's been awhile since I have pulled them out, we'll see how it goes. Lol😄 Happy Sunday! 💖
