Sometimes when you are out photographing wildlife you come across a small subject that you want to photograph. In my case it was a poisonous mangrove pit viper. What works better for capturing close ups with your telephoto lens? Is it extension tubes or a teleconverter? Check out which one I would recommend when trying to photograph those small subjects you find when you are out capturing images of wildlife with a large telephoto lens like the Nikon 600mm F4 FL lens.

    One thing to consider, with extension tubes, is that the more you have stacked, then the more voltage drop to your lens. Since this is extremely low voltage, and low amperage, I'm guessing that the autofocus would be significantly slower than when using a teleconverter.

    Good video: My Olympus/OMD 300mm f4 has a minimum focusing distance of 1.4 metres. I attach an MC20 to it and photograph butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies. The subject fills the frame, but I do not get so close as to scare it off. I rarely refer to my lenses by their FF equivalent, but for those who do, my 300mm f4 + MC20 is the FF equivalent of 1200mm, and retains the minimum focusing distance of 1.4 metres. If I am able to do so, however, I use my OMD 90mm f3.5 macro lens, with or without my MC14/MC20 teleconverters attached. I am no macro purist: I use whichever lens is the most suitable at the time. I prefer to use a teleconverter rather than an extension tube because I can still use the lens at or close to infinity should the need arise.

    I once used a 2x teleconverter on an old school fixed 500mm lens with a mount adapter ring on my Canon to get some real nice full frame shots of the moon.

    I have a Canon 2x Extender iii EF, and I want to connect it to my Sigma 50-500mm EF lens, but it won't connect. If I get an extension tube, would this work?

    How about tele converter plus extension tubes with anti reflection layer DIY in it? And even more plus one ultrawide in reverse on front of the tele lens? To shoot ant's hair and eyes, how many magnification I need? And what if I reverse a Ultra wide lens like Sony 16-35mm F4 PZ at its 16mm on front of multiple the extension tubes, will I get even more magnification? Is the Sony 70-200mm F4 MACRO OSS G II with 2X tele converter that can produce 1:1 magnification still a good buy? It has autofocus to shoot closer up and long tele videos , but with extension tube and reverse attach an ultrawide on front of the lens will still get high magnification too right, just cumbersome right?

    I have a really good beginner question for ya, what if we mount the middle sized extension tube first, then the teleconverter, then the big sized extension tube and then the lens? Will that work? And also that might remove the vignette situation since magnification glasses will be more spread out or should we mount the teleconverter directly to the lens and camera to the extension tubes?
