In this video, I completely restore this abandoned IBM 8512 Color CRT Monitor that I found in a Los Angeles Data Center that was abandoned in 1994. This thing was destined to it's death. Instead, it ended up at my house where it received all new capacitors, a removable cable mod, and a good clean up! Also, yes... I will be keeping this thing.

IBM PC Restoration now finished!!! https://youtu.be/R_3n-3TTnxg ALSO, for those wondering why the CRT looks so blue at the end, I had the blue knob adjusted wrong and fixed it after.

I love the fact that you saved this CRT from its terrible fate, the poor thing deserved better. I'm glad it found a good caring owner that appreciates its nice image and comfy glow. You're a damn hero in my book.

When a tech destruction channel becomes a tech repair channel.
  • IMAGINE if some company with some deep pockets re-engineered the CRT monitor, to make it smaller, lightweight, compact, and able to handle today's insane resolutions like 4k and extremely high refresh rate. Gamers could rejoice as we dump LCD since its garbage.

0:12 my mother when I see a discounted monitor and want her to drive me to the store so I can buy it

They were costing a fortune back then. So I assume the quality is great. Although you can´t change their physical resolution, they will probably run another 30 years after cap replacement.

Finally, somebody who actually rescues these things from abandoned buildings! Everybody else seems not to care at all. Someday I hope to do the same thing you have done.
  • I love the style of this video, it's the most laid-back presentation of someone working with a high-voltage device.
  • It hurts me to see old equipment treated this poorly. I think its great that you restored this wonderful monitor back to specs. I myself are going too try to restore a ibm 5153 that i got for Free from a random guy working at a airline.

Honestly, seeing you get so excited over it working makes me happy! I understand that feeling because you feel so proud when you fix something without errors and it's just the best feeling! Jealous of that crt tbh. Love it so much.
  • I don't wanna imagine the computer siting there away from civilization, just rotting away In the darkness, while getting urinated by animals

For anyone wondering, the PC video is 95% done! I've been stuck on the very last step of the restoration for the past few months. I'm hoping to have the video up in 2-3 weeks.
  • @Macdonald223.
Super cool! I wish people would do this more often even having to go into some creepy ass abandon hospital There's history behind this vintage tech
  • @SolidNate99
You can tell that you had extreme confidence in your abilities evidenced by how much effort you put into cleaning it before you even verified if you could get it to work. I want your skills!

Crazy to see that the image quality still holds up really well. I always loved my CRT but hated carrying it around to LAN parties xD

This actually was amazing to watch. Even more so that I love messing with tech stuff and seeing this was just amazing.
