Didn't even mention the Canon 17-55 2.8 IS, which should probably be the winner as it's a much more useful focal range. Fail.
  • @sigmaphoto
Thank you for the recommendation! Glad our 24-70mm found a place in your kit. :)
  • Always happy to see another ELM video in my notifica... I mean I found this video randomly and I wouldn't even dream of subscribing!
  • @MattSpaugh
Fun video. The only thing I missed after bailing out on the sinking ship of EF was my Tamron 15-30 f/2.8. That lens is pure gold. As a full frame Sony shooter, the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is my, "if I could only have one lens" lens.
  • @loganarowland
This is exactly what I’m needing. Every video tells me to get the Sigma 18-35 which is what I’ve been planning on. Now you’ve got me considering differently.
  • I use the Canon 24-105mm a lot and I love it for its range. And if you zoom with an open f4, you don't lose any light. If you close it just to f4.5, it is just as you show: You lose lots of light zooming in.
  • @CHODOSPHOTOS
Astute. The 12mm and 18-35 - workhorses in my kit....for years and years.
  • There’s a lot of people talking about the Canon efs 17-55 2.8 here. I bought that lens and the range is indeed great. HOWEVER, the build quality isn’t and the focus ring is so plasticy and thin that it doesn’t really allow for good focus pulls. I think this is why it isn’t included here. It’s a good budget option but lacks some details to really be used professionally. Thanks for the overview Epic Light Media!

Love the amount of lenses tested 💯 very helpful, would love even more videos like these putting the best lenses against each other
  • @directoradamg
The canon 17-55 f2.8 lens is imo, by far, the best lens for the pocket pro if you can find a reasonably priced good condition used one. It has IS, f2.8, light weight, and it replicates the 24-70 lens would look like on a full frame. Yes it is an APS-C lens, but so is the pocket pro.
  • @ericcoen8894
Sigma 18-35/1.8 is an essential lens for EVERY videographer
  • @RuneSmedstuen
Correct me if Im wrong, but @3:20, there is a notice about the Canon 24-105 f/4 letting in more light at 24mm than at 105mm. There is a difference in F and T stops, and even thought the lens technically would be at f/4 all through the range, the real concern here should be the T-stop. There is a reason cinema-lenses is measured at T2.8, instead of f/2.8. F denotes the aperture measurements, while T is a measurement of how much light is actually passing through the lens at any given F-stop.
  • Also, now that black magic released gyro stabilization for their pocket cameras it makes de sigma 18-35 even better
  • @BrendanEvan
I always use a garden hose to carefully nest my cinema camera
  • I shoot on a Fuji XT3 with a speedbooster and the tamron 24-70 f 2.8 g2. And I love it. I don't mind the weight at all. Quite the contrary because I shoot 90% handheld
