The Lions' infamous 2015 finish against the Packers needs a deep rewind

This game is all but wrapped up. Line up at their own 21-yard line with little to no time remaining, ain't no way in hell the Green Bay Packers can find the end zone against the Detroit Lions. For the first time in over a decade, Detroit is on the verge of completing a season sweep against their divisional rival. If a decade sounds like a ridiculously long time, the Lions beat the Packers on the road for the first time in 24 years a few weeks prior. Yes, TWENTY FOUR YEARS. With this being a home game for Detroit, completing a sweep over a team that's owned them for years will undoubtedly make this loyal Lions fan base ecstatic. A rare feeling for them.

Historically the Lions are ass. Despite being one of the oldest franchises in the league, Detroit is one of four teams to have never reached the Super Bowl. But tonight, this team presents hope for the future. What changed? Well, to fully appreciate what comes next we gotta rewind.

The fact that this happened 3 times with the packers that year was absolutely insane
  • @DomParaan
why would you make us lions fans relive this moment šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

This is making me wonder if in the future we'll get 7+ hours on the Lions.

That loss to the cowboys deserves a rewind. Jerry Jones comes sprinting down from his owners box and the flag gets mysteriously picked up
  • Itā€™s really weird you didnā€™t mention the review of that face mask call, because itā€™s one of the biggest feathers in the ref conspiracy cap for the lions. Multiple replays showed he grabbed his shoulder pad. Truly one of the most Lions moments, they canā€™t even get a call reviewed in a rewinder episode šŸ˜‚

I remember watching that game live and, being a Lions fan and having seen this dance play out so, so many times before, the moment that flag was thrown I told my roommate "Packers are gonna win." It especially hurt when you saw the replay and realized that the facemask, well, wasn't.

My earliest NFL memory as a child, growing up in the Detroit area, was watching the Lions lose to the Bears on Thanksgiving in 1980. That kickoff return for a TD in OT created a blueprint for the Lion's tradition of losing games in dramatic fashion.

You forgot to mention that the facemask call... wasn't even a facemask. There should've been no penalty. That said, as a Lions fan, even though we fell just shy of the playoffs last year, sweeping the Packers as well as destroying their playoff hopes AT Lambo in the last game of the season was a solid consolation prize.
  • To all the lions fans out there remember that Aaron Rodgers last ever reception was to Kerby Joseph
  • @McDrewbii
Detroit didn't throw up on themselves tho. The defender never actually touched Aaron's facemask.

"Go together like peanut butter and poop..." Idk man... i know many a dog that would call that a match made in heaven.

I like how they skipped over that face mask call not being right

You forgot to mention, he never touched Rogersā€™ face mask.

Saw this live at 11 years old. Came two years after the 61 yd career high FG by Justin Tucker which I also saw live (Funnily enough he would break that record against the Lions again on a questionable no call for delay of game) I sobbed at both of those. It was so hard being a Lions fan. Things look better now, but we really don't know until the end. I'm forever loyal to this team

Gotta love how the Falcon's fan at Secret Base neglects to at all mention the phantom facemask and slants everything against the Lions, right after they beat the Falcons.
  • Full disclosure, lions fan here. Kind of crazy this video brushes past the phantom face mask controversy. The entire play hinges on that call, and itā€™s not even a footnote in this video. Iā€™ve come to terms with this play but to do an entire rewind and not even talk about the penalty that created the ā€œmiracleā€ isā€¦. an odd choice.
  • @austinabro2027
You forgot the best part. This WAS NOT a facemask, the replay clearly showed that while he touched his helmet he did not pull him down by it or touch the facemask at all. God I hope we win tomorrow
  • @Beranin
I'm very surprised you didn't go over there was actually no facemask. Rodgers completely faked the jerking motion to get a penalty.
  • @JustinMcBride21x
Odd that this video doesnā€™t even mention that the ā€œfacemaskā€ penalty that set up the Hail Mary wasnā€™t really a penalty. The defenderā€™s fingers brushed across Rodgersā€™s facemask and Rodgers turned his own head, perhaps to help sell it. Sucks that it wasnā€™t even a footnote.

Having to rewatch this play just makes me sick to my stomach, nothing more lions could have done.
