Fire type Pokemon are certainly powerful, but often quite rare and frail. Can they beat Pokemon Platinum's greatest challenge!?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Platinum Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Fire types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

"I was very adamant to train up Attack EVs on wild Shinx"...I see what you did there Silph 🤔
  • @xMarbleSnow
Literally just searched up “Hardcore Nuzlocke” so I could watch it while I’m eating and then got the notification. Silph clutching up
  • I'd love to see a "4x weakness only" run, Scizor 4x weak to fire, geodude 4x weak to water, Paris 4x to flying etc
  • @FranzPerez21
"Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?" he asked calmly.
  • The fact that you thought Dawn said "I've lived for 60 long years." had me cracking up.
  • @wylieisme5572
when he failed the first attempt i was wondering why he wasn’t using Ponyta lmao
  • I was like hell yea Harry Potter nicknames, but after you renamed mad-eye I realized it was all from Goblet of Fire. Well played sir
  • I love how Flint and Silph have the exact same teams. Gotta love sinnoh fire types.
  • @djdrizzy9139
I have to see how you get pass Barry at Hearthome; that fight is HARD, especially deathless. This challenge is way harder than my Grass no-death nuzlocke; you don't even get access to a full fire team!
  • @det4590
    Me : Tries a nuzlocke
    Immediately fails
Silph: does a load of nuzlockes and beats them
  • Me before watching this video: I don’t think this is going to end well.
Me when he catches Houndour: Love the Harry Potter naming theme.
Me when he renamed Magmortar: Goblet of Fire. Ingenious!
Me after watching the video: Yep, I was right.
  • @aravinds4910
Houndoom is one of my all time favorites. Seeing it pull through the run makes me happy. Keep up the grind and thanks for the amazing video, Silph!

I know diamond/pearl get a hard time for the gyms leaders and the elite 4 using Pokémon that aren’t their type. I have always thought of them being masters of a type, and not just a type of Pokémon. Like Flint being a fire type trainer, not just fire type Pokémon trainer. But the type as a whole, that’s why everyone on his team has a fire move. I feel like they are true masters of their chosen type, and it provides a new challenge, because you can’t just use a super-effective type to beat them, you have to variety to the strategy.
  • @Meatmarbles
At the beginning when I saw the possible encounters, I had forgotten about a crucial thing about Old Chateaus trickster (which I remembered at the time of Fantinas gym); To anyone else wondering, Rotom did not get its typing changed until generation 5 when changed into any of the appliances, it remained its Electric/Ghost typing. Totally forgot it myself
  • I was thinking "but what about Ponyta?" since before the first gym and all the way until you realized
  • @donovan802
I looked at the title and told myself: “Wow, Silph, you masochist.”
  • 16:08 this was an incredible strategy Silph!! Not many of how bad of a demon this Mismagius is
  • This run made me ridiculously happy, especially the nicknames. You're amazing and your uploads make me so happy, keep it up and take your time with everything!!:) congrats on the house
  • Correction: Your ponyta’s nature is impish, which is +Defense and -SpecAtk, which is pretty Garbo for a ponyta
