Trumpets and cries of “God save the King” were heard as Charles III was proclaimed monarch during an elaborate ceremony at St. James's Palace.

Charles became king immediately after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but a historic meeting formally confirmed his role on Saturday.

It is the first time that cameras have been inside this ceremony, the last of which took place over 70 years ago.

  • I can honestly say this is the first time for most people on the planet to witness the proclamation of a new King of England. Historical indeed.
  • I am not a royalist, but the amount of history that goes into every detail in this ceremony is incredible.
  • You can hear the crowd in the background cheer "Horray" a few times, and cheer "Horray" with the soldiers as well. Bloody goosebumps.

Crazy, most of us have only ever seen this sort of thing in various Television shows and films, so to see the real thing is quite wonderful from a historical perspective.
  • Amazing how these ancient ceremonies are preserved and performed to perfection, especially considering some are done once in several decades!

Losing your mother leaves you with a big hole in your heart and in your life. Doesn't matter that you mom was queen or not. She was still you mom. May she rest in peace.
  • The pageantry and traditions that come with this tradition are simply remarkable how it hasn’t changed for over 800 years

It so fascinating to think that this is the first time that the public has seen the entire ceremony.I know that there is archival footage from when Elizabeth became Queen, but to see inside the palace and the inner mechanisms of proclaiming the new King was a privilege to witness.

I’m not English or from Europe at all. Im Asian age 25. But I’ve always loved the royal family. I always adored the rich history from which they come and lineage of great and not so great rulers which they’ve had. But through it all they have endured. And it is a testament to their will of serving as great rulers but now see them as great role models of society. Stay classy. Long live the King! 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

It's like a window into the past. The pomp, the circumstance, the elegance and precision. If I were a Brit, I'd be busting with patriotic fervor. Absolutely stunning.
  • Can't believe I'm alive to see a British King proclaimed. I hope I'm still alive when William and George does. 👏

Very fascinating ceremony, the precision and tradition does inspire awe. Sorry for your loss, Brits. Love from America.
  • I was 12 when Queen Elisabeth II ascended the throne Now, at 83 I am witnessing the ascension of a King, Charles III. As an American, I am not a "royals" follower, but these events are deeply emotional to heirs of the British people.

The entire coronation was the most beautiful, glorious, magnificent event of history I have ever witnessed! I as an American am truly in awe. God bless our friends across the pond!
