A hydrothermal explosion Tuesday morning at Yellowstone National Park sent people running for cover and prompted the closure of an area containing several geysers.

Hydrothermal explosions occur when water suddenly flashes to steam underground, and are relatively common in Yellowstone.

The boardwalk was damaged, but there were no reports of injury, according to a statement from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Here’s an idea. When there’s a thermal explosion chucking out boiling hot water & chunks of travertine, don’t 🤬 stop to take pictures 🙄

First thing I notice is the kids in the back, closest to the explosion, getting left behind the adults running 🏃🏼‍♂️ faster… instead of grabbing them or running Behind them to make sure they get out. 🙈🙉🤦🏽‍♀️
