This is a review of the PSA, Palmetto State Armory, AK47 build kit that I just assembled. This is the generation 1 build kit from PSA. Links have been removed as per Youtube's Terms of Service. Overall pleased with the build, but not without it's issues. Any questions please leave in the comments below.

That thing turned out nice looking! Can you fast fire a mag with out any issues? I want to build one just to have one I built myself. I have plenty of others to be a go to rifle! Thing looks pretty good man!

I got one of those with that red stock included. I didn't like how the rear sling swivel was in the wrong place and, the pistol grip is too small and, slippery for, my tast. I changed to a standard military AKM wood furniture kit on mine.

same part broke on mine too! PSA sent me another as well. I JB welded it back together and have been shooting it to see if it would hold just to see. after 300 rounds, its still holding.

Darink300zx man that shade of Red on the furniture is outstanding, great job ! I agree with you I like wood on AK's and not plastic.

When did you order this kit? I have been looking at PSA for months and they always seem to be out of stock. Thx for the video

nice looking AK...put a G2 trigger or ALG trigger that will help. I wish these had a chrome lined barrel. These are not in stock at this time at Palmetto.
  • You mentioned 922r compliance in regards to the small parts for the build. However, 922r only applies to imported rifles. Since this rifle has an American-built receiver, you don't have to worry about 922r.

i had trouble getting my boat into the chamber too :(

Actually looking at yours disassembled, you got a completely different gun than me. The entire recever, rear trunion, trigger pack, all different. Hmn.

my PSA gen 1 kit miss fire pin and all the spring in the bolt. also my front sight too loose I can use my finger to move left to right. and need a lot for fitment too. ( gas tube, upper & lower magpul handguard & dust cover; They are AR15 is good but AK ~_~ ....
  • @bkpickell
If your top cover was that tight then chances are that your rear sight was pressed on too far. Also you should be modifying the top cover to fit, not your trunnion.
  • Wouldn't that technically be an AKM? I was always under the impression that milled lowers come on AK-47s and stamped lowers come with AKMs.

i bought a barreled receiver and the basic parts kit. its cheap and cheap quality. no where near my zastava in terms of quality. the dust cover doesnt even fit. the action keeps getting stuck. real shit quality. disappointed tosay the least.

Boris says Kapitalists cannot build AK. Simple but not so simple. That REd is not red star red. It is Chinese restaurant red. The PSA Aks will be out in March 2016. Lots of improvements are promised. Like it might even work.... So I bought an Npap instead. LOng live SERBIA.It runs like a SWiss watch. So to speak.

What is special about this particular AK47 kit? Is it better or worse than your common, say WASR 10, other than it has a mediocre trigger? Why not save some time and just purchase a better quality AK out of the box? Something like Bulgarian-made Arsenal ones? Or, if you like DIY just purchase an excellent and very durable Russian-made Vepr Molot rifle (comes in various popular calibers) and easily convert it to an excellent AK? Granted: a converted this way AK would cost you just about under $1000 (about $1,200- $1,500 if you decide to purchase a ready-to-go out of the box gun) and most likely wouldn't have all wooden furniture, but it would be a much better quality rifle than this PSA AK47!. You don't need to take my word for it, just read about Molot Vepr AKs and watch some extreme beating tests and reviews about this rifle here on youtube. Thumbs up!
  • You lost me at cast trunions. Plus, PSA had a recall on their AK's. Sigh......I wish we could get QUALITY AK47s for inexpensive. The serious lack of quality control and taking shortcuts on many AK brands is extremely irritating.
