The Neo Geo has a reputation for being expensive. In this video, I tackle some of the misconceptions around the console, different options available for enthusiasts as well as my thoughts on whether or not the Neo Geo is worth it.

In the middle of this video I got an ad for Rocket Knight Adventures Re-Sparked. Better ad placement has never existed.

Quick Little Story For Ya™ Back in the NEO GEO heyday... maybe 92-93? I got a major talkin' to from my parents because my neighborhood buddy got a NEO GEO after his parents got divorced and were showering him with gifts trying to win custody. ... Of course I didn't understand the complexity of it at the time and just asked my parents "If you guys ever get divorced, can I have a NEO GEO?". They said no. 20ish years later, they got divorced right as I finished college. They never got me a NEO GEO.

You know I’ve been trying to place it for a long time but I finally figured it out. Your videos and humor remind me of the old Goofy “The Art Of [X]” mock instructional videos Disney released in the 40s, with its combination of serious and silly script and the acting you do. Love your stuff, hilarious and pertinent to my interests, keep it up, and thanks!

The Neo Geo has some of the prettiest games of all time. The Metal Slug games in particular really stand out to me, the art has aged like a fine wine and will continue to look gorgeous forever.

I was so jealous whenever I would see the Neo-Geo in magazines back in the late 80’s. I eventually bought a Neo-Geo. And I also grabbed the very rare Neo-Geo CDZ. Some of the gems in my collection. Enough about me rambling, great video as always.

The Neo-Geo is one of my favorite things ever. Me and some friends spent our high school graduation night at a local truck stop eating the greasy burgers they served and playing on the Neo they had in the little arcade in the back. Good times.

7:00 at one point I had read the AES did not start out as a "home" console and was instead intended to be a hotel system which were quite popular in Japan at the time.

My Neo Geo mini was 80 bucks (for 40 games) brand new and worth every penny. It's my most played mini.

I'm a military kid and my parents were stationed in England. Our on base arcade got an SF2 cabinet and it was impossible to get on it as people had quarters lined up for days (as was the fashion back then). Sad and dejected, I made my way to the on base bowling alley (my parents were air force if you couldn't tell) and saw a new machine in the back corner. Neo Geo. Fatal Fury 2 was loaded in it and it instantly caught my eye. I fell in love with this game and have been an SNK fanboy ever since. When people caught on that they couldn't get on the SF2 machine either, they'd make their way to the bowling alley, where I would destroy all that challenged me. When I got old enough, got a real job and made my first real money, the first thing I did was buy a Neo Geo off ebay and Fatal Fury Special. Still have both and picked up a Neo SD Pro. Fatal Fury 2 and Special will always have a special place in my heart but there are so many great games on this system.

Just started an MVS collection this year. Got a couple bootlegs but if they play fine they play fine. Neo Geo had a stranglehold on the Chinese market so if you can find the right seller you can get started with an MVS collection for about $150 (MVS board, Supergun, KOF 98, cables, and a controller/controller adapter). There's also the PolyGame Master, a Taiwanese competitor to the Neo Geo that had some fantastic games like Demon Front (a Metal Slug competitor) and even some Cave shmups like Espagluda and DoDonPachi (DoDonpachi II, a game for the system, was not made by Cave but was made under license and is what got Cave to stay in the arcade business). PolyGame Master is about the same price as an MVS, and the games range from $30-120. Since it uses the same Jamma connector (and has a shell), it's already basically consolized.

So I’ve been incidentally collecting plastic bread tags for almost a decade lol. At first it was because I was lazy and there was a cute fake flower pot on the window ledge and I’d just toss them in there instead of the garbage…. Until it filled up, then I just decided to keep the ball rolling because I thought no one else would ever collect these. I’m so glad I found this channel! Such great content, so positive yet real and funny. Thank you so much for these videos

I keep all my bread bag clips in a safety deposit box at the bank. Good luck getting them

One very very unique thing about your channel is zero capture card play, and I really really appreciate that. It just looks boring and CRT gameplay on a camera is just more authentic looking. I thank you for that

Your wooden Neo Geo is enviable! I had no idea Analogue made those.

You're welcome Bird. A pleasure to do so for you bro. 8^) Ah, so you enjoy a good game of Bust-A-Move. A superb choice for sure Bird. I love the game and like to whistle the music from the game when I was a boy even now when I have the game on my mind. 8^) As for me, the game that will always be Number 1 will be Magician Lord. It was the first Neo-Geo title that I ever played in 1990. The first time I played on the Neo-Geo MVS was at a local Dairy Queen on Rt. 4 in Paramus, New Jersey. Me and the family were having our Sunday afternoon lunch when a video game distributors truck was starting to roll off a "Big Red" for 4 slot unit into the entrance to the restaurant. At first, I was fascinated by the technology from the description by the store manager explaining that you can play up to 4 titles by simply pressing the white button on top of the joystick. That was mind blowing for me at he time. Once the MVS was ready to be played, Magician Lord was the first choice for me to do so....Man! I must've spent $10 Dollars in quarters barely defeating level 1 in the game. It was the most challenging for me at the time. But, it made me continue on because it was just so entertaining to play. Everything about Magician Lord was perfect for me. Since that day forward, I was a Neo-Geo buff. 8^) Thank you as always for allowing me to share your material Bird. Glad to share a brief history of the Neo-Geo in my life and awesome to read yours as well bro. Keep up the great work and looking forward on seeing more from you soon my good man. 8^) Anthony...

I love this guys whole style. His voice matches his goofy face, which matches his goofy sense of humor which matches the goofy “old man” content that is retro gaming. Guys just congruent on all levels lol. I mean all this in the most positive of ways.

I purchased my NeoGeo CMVS Slim in ebony finished ash wood from Analogue back in 2013. My personal favorites are: League Bowling, Neo Turf Masters, Top Hunter, Ninja Commando, Metal Slug 4, Prehistoric Isle 2 & View Point. I do have the NeoGeo mini and it’s actually not a bad way to play many of the NeoGeo library for very little money
