Hi! I'm Anne if you're new here :) I'm a 4th year PhD student at UBC. I do research in the field of drug delivery and nanomedicine. I enjoy making "a day in the life of a phd" vlogs to document my journey and share the ups and downs in grad school. I also like to make phd student advice/tips videos related to grad school! Thanks for stopping by ^^

You being so candid is going to give at least one person the courage to go for something they thought they couldn’t just because of their grades. You’re awesome 👏🏽

Thank you for this! The honesty is so refreshing and I can relate in so many ways!! Your doing amazing things now anyways :)

Thank you for making this video, it's really inspiring. My gpa was lower than yours and things feel hopeless sometimes

Everyone always tries to show off their high grades and stuff but this shows the real side. Thx for the motivation

I have a very bad undergraduate record. My GPA is around B- to C, and I regret it so much now. But I'm very very determined to go to Grad School. I'm not from Canada but I want to go to UBC. For now, I'm planning to gain work experience, get a Master's degree, and improve my academic+research records so I can apply for PhD in a good university. Not gonna lie though, my low GPA really haunts me and makes me anxious, thinking maybe I'm just fooling myself for believing I could get into grad school. Anyway, I'm applying for grad school later this year for 2022 intake. Still a long way to go before getting into PhD but this time, I don't want to settle for less.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been following your channel and I can definitely tell you that it has been providing me with such peace of mind that I feel a little bit better at every video I watch. The whole Grad School application and all the waiting is so anxiety-provoking that knowing the stories of successful people who have been through similar stuff makes me feel I'm on the right path. As a Pharmacy student in Brazil, I got an overall avg ~78% too. Because of my background, I can relate to many things you show in your daily lab routine, but it's mindblowing to me how you integrate so many different areas into your research. I also saw your paper on Biomaterials Science and it rocks! I am starting as an MSc student in Bioinformatics at UBC this coming September but you made me want to go back to Pharmaceutical Sciences - even if only to check what awesome stuff people are doing!

Thank you for sharing! It's funny how the thresholds are different in my country - averaging 78% is considered the equivalent of an A+ (the best grade indicator you can get!)

I made a similar (shitty) video back in the day (I wasn't sure about the sound so I basically shout and seem so serious during the intro haha. IN essence: I also didn't have the best grades in undergrad and pushed myself to get magna cum laude in my M.Sc. You can 'grow' into your major, perhaps because the courses become less broad, more specific and thus potentially super interesting!

Hello!! I'm a current UBC student interested in grad school for Chemistry. I'm wondering if you had any research experience in your undergrad that helped boost your application, and how you got that. I am struggling to get any opportunities as I cold email professors... Btw when you're taking about 213, I hope the prof you're talking about wasn't too bad because I have him for an upcoming upper level course.

Hi anne! thanks for this video! I also did bad in my undergrad in chemistry at SFU too! my GPA was only 2.58/4.33. I recently finished my masters in chem eng at western with an 85%. i was also thinking about Phd in pharm sci at ubc too, do you have any comment on a bad undergrad but a good masters? any help is appreciated!
  • I got conditional acceptance, i need to secure a supervisor for admission, any tips?
  • I am from India how many requirements for admission in Master course in pharmaceutical science ? what about grades, extracurricular, job experience ?
  • @Andrew-ez9ft
A B+ isn't that bad. It isn't the end of the world. isn't that around 3.3?
  • @justinm.1
I thought Biology 12 was a required High School course??? Lol
