This was an incredible project to work on with FamilyJules! Getting the English version of God Shattering Star from Fire Emblem Three Houses was no easy feat, but as I talk about in this video, an incredibly satisfying one. Stay tuned for an interview I recorded with FamilyJules later on this month, in addition to checking out our cover!

I cannot believe it took me hearing Joe say FamilyJules out loud to finally get the "Family Jewels" joke, how did that go over my head all this time

Much respect for the lengths you go to. Your dedication has kept the fandom alive through the years

The sword of the creator could cut mountains apparently, according to Claude I mean claude even said that he wantee to cut a mountain at one point So it's probably nemesis flexxing, which inevitably pisses claude off because now, not only teach can cut mountainszl, but nemesis too, and the real reason he left fodlan was to find his own way to literally cut fodlans throat, the mountain range separating almyra and the Leicester alliance

If the original version was already breathtaking, what you did with the lyrics here was a masterpiece. I spent several hours listening to it and paying attention to the lyrics (my musicologist side was going crazy), and the more I did those things, the more I loved it. You've really made this song into your own thing, and seeing how much you enjoyed it, to the point where you willingly sang in it shows the passion you have for music and for the FE fandom. Now being able to see part of the process behind it is utterly fascinating. Coming up with good lyrics that fit the melody, rhythm and whatnot isn't at all easy, especially when adapting them from another language. But it takes a true expert to did it, and that's just what you are. If I already respected and admired you as a musician, voice actor and as a person, this made me enjoy your work even more. Kudos, Joe. You made a Claudical Hit.

Funny to think about Claude and Nemesis fighting over pancakes XD But seriously tho, you and FamilyJules keeping the God-Shattering Star shining brighter than ever with your masterpieces!
  • Y'know, I'd never really thought of Claude and Nemesis being foils of each other in that way, and it's really bringing a newfound deeper sense of appreciation for both their characters! I think I realized this song was Nemesis's when I was playing through the game for the umpteenth time, and I realized that the opening melodic phrase of God Shattering Star actually makes an appearance in the very first cutscene in the game when Nemesis appears to confront Seiros. I think that was when I clued in that "oh, God Shattering Star is Nemesis's leitmotif, so the song is his!" Loved the original cover, and I love this English translation!

I HONESTLY never really cared about Voice Actors. I just kind of skimmed through them, recognized a voice here or there. But that's really about it. Ever since Fire Emblem Three Houses came out, Joey was the first one to ever really grab my attention and make me realize just how cool Voice Actors are! And ever since, he has done so much more. He never disappoints. I'm so glad you are our House Leader Joey! Wouldn't have it any other way. Fear The Deer!

For those that didn't read it, here's the King of Liberation class description: "Under the pretense of liberating Fódlan from a reign of deception, this king rallied his people to arms in the War of Heroes." Essentially, Nemesis' proclamations of liberation in the song is propaganda to make himself King. As Joe pointed out, some of his true motives leak out as it goes on. This really does set him up as a foil to Claude, because Claude actually does have the values of freedom Nemesis claims to have, and without the self-glorification.

I can't believe you put that Jules vid at the end lmao
  • @guguig9746
I knew, going into this, that the end bit would somehow make an appearance. My expectations were met
  • @elizabethk007
Love the analysis of the God-Shattering Star! While I knew it was Nemesis singing the lyrics, the emphasis on Claude and Nemesis being foils to each other was really poignant
  • @colossalweeb
The first thing i noticed when listening to your English cover of the song was how the goals and aspirations of nemesis are a sort of twisted mirror to Claude and his own goals. This was something that completely went over my head when playing the game and it makes the ending make a lot more sense in my eyes.

This is a cool look behind the scenes I like the way the song turned out it’s amazing.

"Rivers of Dragon's Blood" as creative license... nervous chuckle
  • @M2BLAQ
Love your analysis of Claude vs Nemesis! We can see how passionate you are about this
