Why Doritos? Why, Boca?

In a sea of biased entries, mine keeps it real.

I've competed in the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl Ad contest before, and I couldn't help but feel like a sell out because I actually don't like Doritos. So this time around, I'm taking a more honest approach with my thoughts about the product.

As for the Crash The Super Bowl Ad Contest, it's a lot of fun, and a great learning experience, but there are a couple things about it that bother me. Historically, the top four winners each received a $25,000 prize. For a Super Bowl commercial caliber spot, that is nothing. Granted, it was possible to win $1,000,000 but that was only if the spot ranked #1 on the Super Bowl ad meter overall. So for Doritos to pay out only $1M for THE TOP AD of the Super Bowl is actually quite minimal. Any Fortune 500 company would pay much more than $1M if they were guaranteed to have the #1 ad. However, this year Doritos is being more generous by guaranteeing the winner $1M regardless of the ad meter results. I think this approach is a lot more fair. Either way, Doritos definitely comes out on top with this ad contest because so many people are buying product for props in their ads and they are also becoming brand ambassadors and sharing their spots with their circle of friends and family, which equates to a lot of free advertising for Doritos.
