Cucumber trellis: bit.ly/3ev6txH Growing cucumbers in containers is pretty easy once you know how these prolific plants work! Variety selection is important here, so decide if you want a pickling or slicing variety, and then if you want a bush or vining type, as that will inform how you support the plant. I encourage you to read further for my in-depth growing cucumbers guides linked below as well!

One of my favorite things about this channel is that you don't tell us to do something or avoid something without telling us WHY! As an educator, I can't overstate how vital this is to learning. This channel is fantastic!

Cucumber peelings have massive cucumber flavor. I know a lot of people peel the skin off and just compost it. Home grown (non waxed) cuke skins make great cucumber water. Before you Chuck them in your compost pile, put them in a pitcher, add a few torn mint leaves if you have them, cover with water and set in the fridge for like half a day. It's amazingly refreshing after an afternoon of weeding. 😀
  • My garden is set for this season, but I had to share this story. 2013 we had moved to Georgia from Arizona. I was and still to this day ALWAYS blown away by the beautiful foliage and atmosphere here. I planted my very first "garden" all five gallon buckets and over two dozen of them. Yeah, my exuberant appetite to become a gardener overwhelmed my common sense. I planted a number of things, most didn't work because I was so new, I had no idea what I was doing. But the cucumbers. SWEET BABY JESUS... I couldn't keep up with them! I was coming out every day to dozens of cucumbers, but because I couldn't keep up, I was getting cucumbers that were overgrown to the size of FOOTBALLS! No joke. Huge, swollen monstrosities the size of a small dog. Next season I will be planting them again but shall we say....with a great deal more knowledge and a LOT more restraint. 🤣 Love your channel so much and I spend hours making notes. There may be hope yet for me!😁

I really love the way you said “Most DISGUSTING cucumbers i’ve ever eaten”. I don’t know why, but it was just funny 😆

Yes!! When my current neighbors were looking at the house across from mine last year, I was harvesting a TON of cukes. It was like they had all come in at once. The guy was like....dude, that is a massive cucumber! Lol!! I just laughed and waved, but took great pride in my massive cuke. Lol! I love making lime pickles. They sound gross, but they are THE BEST! I actually used my grandmother's pickling crocks to make them last year! They tasted just like hers. I was so proud! ❤🙂👍

I love how cucumber are so discreet with their fruit. They hide it.
  • The lemon cucumber is the favorite of most of the people I know. So much so that this year I have 14 plants in the ground and starting to flower already! Best cucumber EVER!
  • Hi, Kevin. I just wanted to tell you once more how much I appreciate your videos. I follow a very select few gardening vloggers (you, Harvey Ussery, Doug and Stacy, and Self Sufficient Me) who know what they are talking about and communicate it well. When I watch yours, I feel like I am back in college because of your well researched and well presented information. I very much appreciate your educated usage of the English language (it is sometimes hard to take seriously a vlogger who butchers the English language). You make me feel like you have done your homework and you present the information in a manner that is so easy to follow. I am an education junkie, and I consider you one of the finest educators I have had the honor of studying under.

Great timing on this one! <3 I've been looking for tips on cucumbers in containers but sadly I've actually seen a lot of advice against 'newer' gardeners growing cucumbers, especially in pots. Again you save the day with handy tips! I ended up with some cucumber seeds from an order I had made and despite the previous warnings I've seen about it, I said 'screw it, I'm gonna plant them anyway.' So far my young plants are gorgeous, and they're growing really nicely. They also get big quickly! The variety I received was labelled "earliest Mincu" so it's compact and vining with smaller fruit. This plant is my garden experiment this year!

You’re always on time with the videos. I have cucumber plants I’m preparing to transplant into my raised bed this weekend. Thanks 🙏🏽

This was very timely, thank you! I'm doing my research to start my own veggie garden (I grow a lot of non-food plants, but I've never grown plants for eating before). I've identified about 6-7 veggies that my family eats a lot of to start with and cucumbers are definitely on the list. 😁

My wife bought your book and I just received it for my birthday today. I send her your podcasts everytime i listen to one that I think would help her in the garden
  • @numinous2506
Love a good juicy cucumber. I'm never more grateful for my time on this planet than when eating something that grew because of my effort. Thank you for helping me achieve better results! You are amazing!
  • @rancisgamer
This is EPIC! I got 14 seedlings going right now 😁👍🏿
  • Climbception I left my peas alone for a few days and came back to them climbing all over each other 😅 i finally got them to grow up, but they are a tangled mess
  • Just started planting and I can see why cucumbers are a great starting plant. The seed turned into a tall sprout within a week. Was cool to see it grow inches each day.

It seems like every day you're answering another of my questions! After not gardening since I was a kid, I went full blown container garden for my 'Pandemic Patch' because the amount of work needed to get my soil ready for planting would have been monumental (actually it's just dirt, soil would be too kind a description for the stuff under my feet). I'm trying to focus on one or two topics a day to avoid being overwhelmed or falling down the YouTube rabbit hole. Today's topic is "How do I trellis cucumbers and zucchini?". Thanks for making it a "one stop shopping" experience!
