I was Technical Director for the Beluga XL, so I can confirm it's based on an A330, 1.5m wider and 6m longer than the Beluga ST - to allow transport of pairs of A350 wings. It is powered by RR Trent 700 engines and we did not build anything bigger based on A380 as the Beluga XL is the biggest aircraft we can operate in Broughton and Bremen. A beautiful beast 👍
  • The beluga birthed the new beluga, that means the beluga is the belugaXL's mother

Kind of ironic that the beluga is transporting the parts for its replacement.

Respect to Airbus, they not only thriving in the industry but also never ashame to admit they were once relying on their rival.
  • A Genius designer: putting a smile and a Whale eye ;makes the difference on a modified A330 to a beautiful beluga
