A detail in Halo 4 I've noticed people missed is Chief does notice the change. as after he slams his hands on the glass of his pod. he takes a moment to look at them. And then when he says "You've been busy." He wasn't just referring to the new HUD.

That’s all well and good, but I think it would’ve been better if the Mark VI was kept until Infinity showed up and then switching to the GEN 2 platform.

The real explanation is that 343i just wanted to have their own art direction for their trilogy, and drastically underestimated how much people would dislike it. The nanobot explanation was kinda thrown out there as justification, but we've seen Spartan-IIs and IIIs wearing the Halo 4/5 style armour during the Human-Covenant War, as well as the Elites wearing the Halo 4/5 style Combat Harnesses, so it's pretty obvious that it's just a different artstyle and people need to chill.

Best part is how his armor apparently matched the brand new gen 2 armor that was developed AFTER he went missing. Wish they just did an armor change cutscene once he got to The Infinity. Still could even have been nano machines

If you dislike the plot holes, I’d recommend the Halo 4 Mythic Overhaul mod, keeps plenty of classic Bungie-era designs and seamlessly integrates some of the new 343 designs in what makes Halo 4 a bit more enjoyable
