I don't think Donnie was nice to her because he felt sympathy towards her and was trying to protect himself. I think he was lonely and didn't have much social support. She was providing company, bolstered his ego and gave him emotional support - that's why he was nice to her. I felt sad for both characters.

I think the last scene where the bartender gives donny the drink for feree and Donny's look of gratitude and naked need was so well done. It matched the first scene with donnny and the stalker.

I understand two reasons why BABY REINDEER has captured the zeitgeist of the moment: 1) It triggers anxiety about the social network and its intrusion into private life like never before via Facebook, twitter, tiktok, etc.. 2) It effectively delves into the question of identity in this ubiquitous media climate, both what one presents to the world and what is felt inwardly. It's brilliantly done in two acts.
