She's an African Gray, one of the smartest animals on the planet. I taught one to sing a song in about 75 seconds. Just remarkable capacity for perfect diction.

My son and his wife lived in my basement apartment. They had several parrots. Boney, the African Grey was one of them. While waiting for my laundry l made myself comfortable on a chair in the bird room and started reading a book. All of a sudden my son says in an accusing voice, "Why aren't you working?" I turned around to defend myself and saw no one. Then Boney said, "Well?" He said it in my son's voice. I couldn't stop laughing.

I love how Cosmo tells the cat to shut up after it meows!! LOL.

I love when Cosmo asks her mom if she’s smoking & then says, “if your smoking, I’m choking” and begins coughing. She’s such a smart girl.

The whole "mom, mom, ma, maa, mom, mommy" reminds me of Stewie in an episode of Family Guy.
  • @DominionFenrir
Sad the cousin passed, but glad she had the foresight to provide for her pets after death. So few people do that.

My boyfriend has an African grey parrot, Oscar. His favorite thing to say is “want some pasta?” And he sings too. If Oscar is in his room, he makes a backup alarm sound if anyone pulls into the driveway. They’re insanely smart and he’s become good buddies with my German shepherd ☺️♥️
  • Such a pleasant, well adjusted, super intelligent bir.... "I said shut up!" I literally cried.

Thank you for honoring her wishes and taking Cosmo in. The reward you received for your kindness has come back a 100 fold. I could hear the love you have for Cosmo in your voice. Best wishes for all.

Even with a few feathers missing, she’s beautiful! She’s right where she needs to be! With you! ♥️

The way as soon as she mentioned the hospital she dropped her snack to focus on her mamas ailment 🥺

Until you live with a Grey, you just cannot fully appreciate how wonderful they are, how much any time spent with them - talking, playing, loving - is returned a thousand-fold. Please don't get one unless you are prepared for life to change and to devote your time and effort to their contentment. The only awful aspect is realising they can outlive you, and trying to ensure their future is smooth and happy.

It's hilarious to realize the phrases he uses are things he's probably heard a lot. Like,, "Hey baby, you wanna come over here?" and "Shut up!" As with a child, DON'T say anything you wouldn't want repeated. It's remarkable that Cosmo seems to use them appropriately in context!
  • @therealbahamut
That bird isn't just talkative; she is CONVERSATIONAL. She is NOT just mimicking, she is SPEAKING. That bird is actually using a freaking LANGUAGE, man, that's pretty damn incredible. I could only imagine what she could with some dedicated language teaching.
  • People have a hard time believing my Cockatoos have conversations with me. When Dylan is screaming and I tell him to stop he'll tell me "I can't stop" or "shutup". I never trained him to give responses. Suzy can change tenses of words like if I tell her the kids can laugh she has responded "no laughing". These are cognitive responses. We love Cosmo.

You guys are the best humans on earth for taking that sweet bird in and giving so much care and love.
