JEALOUS GUY
I was dreaming of the past and my heart was beating fast
I began to lose control, I began to lose control
I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't want to hurt you, I'm just a jealous guy

I was feeling insecure - you might not love me anymore
I was shivering inside, I was shivering inside
I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't want to hurt you, I'm just a jealous guy

I was trying to catch your eyes - thought that you were trying to hide
I was swallowing my pain, I was swallowing my pain
I didn't mean to hurt you, I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't want to hurt you, I'm just a jealous guy

  • Back in 1980, I bumped into John by chance at the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg. He was coming down on the escalator and I was going up. I was completely stunned as he passed! I went straight back down and found him in the hotel foyer, talking to two other people. I asked the concierge for a pen and John signed an autograph for me before going outside and climbing into a waiting car. It was all so surreal!

40 years ago today the greatest songwriter ever was brutally taken away from us. 40 years on we have never forgotten you. Your music will live on forever and ever. We miss you John

One of my first memories of my mother was her playing this on piano. It invokes a lot of nostalgia in me. It's so beautiful. I love my mum.
  • back in the early 70's my then boyfriend, now husband, while living in New York, as a struggling musician, had a rare opportunity to have a car, and we were taking to Rhode Island for a weekend. As we were leaving the city, we saw John Lennon and a companion, hailing a cab. We asked if he needed a lift, he agreed and we took him to the Dakota. It was probably the most THRILLING day of my life. He was gracious unpretentious, and humble and twice as handsome in person. My boyfriend/husband chit chatted with him about music and the last thing he said as we dropped him and his friend off, was...."if I ever need a mad musician I will call you gary," My boyfriend/husband, had given him our phone number. I did say a few words to him while he was in THE BACK SEAT OF OUR CAR!!!!! but, being the BIGGEST BEatle fan in the WORLD, as a young teenager, I was in a state of shock.

This song is attached to one of the very few memories I have of my Dad. He died a month before I turned five, so I do mean very few. He played it for me because my older brother had done something to me to make me cry, i have no idea what. He explained that he would just get jealous sometimes and that he doesn't mean to hurt me and make me cry. It's been 31 years since we lost him and when I hear this song it still takes me back to that moment with my Daddy trying to make me feel better and assuring me that my big brother still loved me ❤️❤️❤️

I appreciate John's honesty in this song. He's being very true and honest with himself and everyone else. Thats a hard thing to do. Shows his growth.
