As a hispanic, I really want to thank you for pointing out how cultural differences impact screening, diagnosis and treatment. Our culture is still very close minded and ADHD symptoms are often labeled as misbehavior. Medication is sadly demonized and mental health crisis is a sign of weakness. There needs to be openmindedness about all of this within cultures

I struggle the most with disorganization & avoidance of tasks that I’m not good at, like paperwork
  • I'm in my 40s and am getting my assessment this afternoon and am just trying to learn more about what I'm in for 😅. Listening to this almost makes me want to cry thinking about going through school as a kid and also all the things I struggle with now. I was basically treated in the opposite way I should have been. Thanks for adding some clarity to what I'm going through/gone through.

Awesome video on DSM 5 TR's ADHD diagnosis - very clear explanation. Understanding this condition really helps in self-acceptance & recovery. Thank U Dr Snipes.
  • I am 50 now and I had to struggle through school with no one ever acknowledging this or knowing about it …I was always nervous of what was going to happen next in the class room but it was an old English boarding school and we were punished frequently… tests were terrifying to me I would panic and look at the clock ⏰
  • Doodling, rummaging in pencil cases, dropping pens, overusing erasers, fixing hair lots, pony tails, biting nails, squirming toes inside shoes, looking around, chewing pencil tops. And not once left the seat because you would be in SO much trouble in the 1970’s = female hyperactivity, 57 and still awaiting diagnosis!

just found out i was treated 50 yrs ago ( age 5-8) for this with speed. Parents, doctors, records are all gone so i have to start over. I can see that adhd symptoms/effects are the blueprint of my wasted life but naturally i lose focus get frustrated procrastinate hide then deny all over again...wtf!

I was diagnosed at 47. Figured it out after see a Dr Russell Barkley presentation. I was having huge issues with anxiety, hyper vigilance. Had already been doing CBT therapy and it helped immensely.

It was interesting to learn that it takes two years for the neurotransmitters to return to the persons “normal” levels. I asked about this years ago and was told by multiple psychologists and psychiatrists that people bounce back from neurotransmitter changes and meds etc within 6 weeks. I knew they were not giving correct information. Thank you for being so informative.
  • I feel like im being called out this whole video🤣🥲😭
  • Hello Doc Snipes! Your instructional videos are well researched and your explanations are clear as a bell. I use your instruction like classroom education. I’m indebted to you.
  • @kuyaroonline
A thank you is not enough. I supper appreciate this video. Thank you so so much
  • Thanks for going over the new changes. I haven't yet come to the course in grad Psychology for diagnosis. This information is highly informative. I have the DSM5 and have to get the new addition. lists, time management, and calendars are helpful. I notice this with some people in my life that speak excessively and can't sit still and are very hyper and overbearing . I'm excited to check out the DSM 5 TR.
  • 3:24 The understanding I've come to regarding effortful activity is that sometimes it's overwhelmingly underwhelming, inadequately satiating any presuppositions toward a net gain.
  • Doc Snipes please can you do a video on how you conduct lit review and conduct your research? Also can you do a video on most sought after assessments, scales, inventories?
