The little girl being so sad at her birthday party hurt so much. I can't handle even depictions of children neglected and joyless. It breaks my heart.

The little girl represents both her AND her own daughter. She switches a few times as a character because the video is showing how she was raised and how terrible she grew up to think her life was only to realize that she was putting her own daughter in the same situations that her mom did. It made her reconcile with some repressed feelings that she'd never turn out the same way, when she really did. It made her realize that her mom tried her best, but sometimes, your best isn't what your children need, they just need you. And it put things into perspective. So the end of the video is her going to make up with her mom...which also symbolizes how Nate forgives his own mom for all the trauma that she gave him. This video is indirectly speaking to how NF plans to break the generational chains for his son, likely because he figured out that his behavior through the years was not that different from his mother's when she was high. This is very powerful.

I bawled my eyes out when I heard this for the first time cos it was like he wrote a song just for me and explained everything I felt. Favorite song forever now

We grew up with the strength to handle traumatic events, like it’s nothing - to be safe and happy tho, that’s some scary stuff. The comfort of living in agony vs the uncomfortable feeling of being happy… we’re always prepared for the hurt to come so we create it.

There's something about NF that hits people differently than other artists. He's raw, emotional, and FIRE!!!
