I think that this one, just like "Let it Die", might have something deeper going on. What I can gather from the song is that the singer is ashamed of the state of his world he lives in : Took a swing at a wrecking ball and I prayed for my downfall when I found a way to reconcile - The singer might've considered suicide as an option to escape this torture of a reality he has to live in. But, he chose to reconcile and try to live on, doing nothing to ease 'the pain' in his heart. Cause in my heart it's not worthwhile It’s a bloody battlefield where Some go down other’s heal - Might be referring to his very own conscience fighting over his will to just let it stay the same. In the end, it’s all the same - He cannot find a way out of this hell. His conscience is losing the battle. All you can do is play the game - I guess this could be a metaphor for the world around him. A game where one wins and other losses. This also shows us that he might not think that the world he lives in even exists since the game is virtual and not real . But, something burns up inside of him, the need to fight back rises: Oh, do we say goodbye - I'm guessing that he is slowly losing contact to reality, meaning he cannot remember what he did and did not. Might also be him not able to differentiate one day from another - routine that 'ate' his life. Refuse to question why I’m too sad to say I’m sorry So lie and pretend that you’re okay - In his world lie is more preferable than truth. Gotta be the reason why he hates it so much. Swear that you will stay Keep trying for one day I’m sick of all these lies - Proves what I said earlier. Don’t care if I capsize There is nothing left for me to hide Don’t want to live a lie Too many lows too many highs Too many things to criticize So I leave it all behind Don’t want to live a lie - He wants to do something about this no matter what. Conscience is winning now. However, he still needs to realize the world outside his inner self: Life kept spitting at my feet and Forced me down a dead-end street when All I had went up in flames - Life out there must be hard for him to take in. Burning only dark remains I cover up every part of my skin, oh Cause I don’t like the person within, no - I think he dislikes himself for not being just like the others, who also reconcile with every lie going 'round. He wants to hide from society covering himself with whatever he wants to. I know I’m the one to blame All I can do is take the shame - He keeps blaming himself for being the way he is. The two sides - conscience and will to reconcile with everything - make him paranoid and deeply trapped in his own mind. Visuals : Well, Rival always had awesome visuals for his music. It's the same for "Live a Lie". If you fully watch the video, you'll notice one theme going on - VR helmets, which represent Virtual Reality, AKA reality that is not ours, *not real*. Why did Rival choose to go with the theme? I don't know. But, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. At least to me, it does. Virtual reality means false reality. False means a lie. With the VR helmets and people being incubated in some weird tubes he might've tried to show us just how horribly the singer's world is filled with dishonesty - it's just like using VR. Although everything I said earlier can be completely wrong, I really enjoyed writing this, and I say my thanks to Rival and Egzod for making this masterpiece!
