About The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee:
Located 85 miles southwest of Nashville in Hohenwald, Tenn., The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee provides elephants retired from performance and exhibition with individualized care, the companionship of a herd, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being. The Sanctuary also works to raise public awareness of the complex needs of elephants in captivity, and the crisis facing elephants in the wild. The Elephant Discovery Center, The Sanctuary’s educational center with exhibits focused on elephants’ role as a keystone species, is open to visitors in downtown Hohenwald. The elephants’ habitats are closed to the public.

That's my Philly girl! Glad to see the Philadelphia Zoo transfered her to the sanctuary. Now she and the other girls at the sanctuary, can live peacefully with nature. God Bless the Sanctuary.

If I ever win the lottery, places like this are going to get the money!

It's been about 10 years since I found the Elephant Sanctuary. Since that time I've kept up with the ele's and their lives. I do not normally cry easily, but I've never watched a video or read stories of them, that I don't shed a tear....tears of joy that they have all of you who care for them. God bless them and you for a lifetime of love.

Dulary is gorgeous, it is wonderful to see her settled and happy. Hopeful her old life is just a distant memory for her.

I was in tears when I received the sad news.  My condolences go out to all the people who worked with her, and to her ele-friends, especially Misty.  I'm glad she got to live the rest of her life in sanctuary.  Rest in peace, Dulary.

I guess when the elephants see the truck they know they are getting a new member of the herd!
  • I feel such a connection to Dulary. I remember being at the Philadelphia zoo as a child in the 60's and again in the 2000's as a member. There was a small group outside of the exit one day, asking for signatures to send the 3 elephants to a sanctuary in TN. Up until then, i had not thought about how sad their lives were. I became an advocate for elephants that day

I’ve been in a self-imposed quarantine for cancer treatment for much of this year, so when I didn’t go out, I spent much of my time online, watching your Girls’ antics. They really cheer me up! I especially enjoyed this video of Tarra excitedly welcoming Dulary. Since I can’t work right now, I can’t donate to your sanctuary; but once I find a job, I certainly plan to donate. Do you issue receipts for income tax purposes for Canadians? If not, I still intend to donate when I can!

I just can't ever get enough of seeing these wonderful transfers and new friendships made. Dulary found herself the best place in the world and new sisters.

I love how Tarra is always part of the "Welcome Wagon" and is so excited when someone new joins her group.
  • @hugwildlife
Its wonderful the way all the girls get along and become a family..
  • Never tire of watching these animals, such a wonderful place for them, heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time to see them meet
  • @aliciab27
Because elephants can communicate on a sonar level for at least 20 miles :-)
  • @riggs20
How neat to see them welcome each other!

I just received an email from the Elephant Sanctuary that Dulary passed away last night, Sunday, December 22.  My condolences to everyone at the ES, Dulary was so fortunate to have so many supporters and friends.  Namaste sweet Dulary.

I adoreTarra as she always near any new actions. What a wonderful welcome she gives to all. All you caregivers are so lucky to interact with elephants. I know God is smiling down on you all. I could watch hours of your elephants. They are one of the most special animals alive. Id love meet each one of the girls and a huge hug and kisses.
