Dr. Heather Irobunda is a board-certified OBGYN in New York and the perfect person to have join me for a reaction to The Good Doctor Season 4 episode 4 “Not The Same”. This is a really intense episode where a mother is forced to make an impossible decision: which of her twins she’s carrying she wants to save. There is a ton of nuance here and I was grateful for Dr. Irobunda’s expertise when discussing subjects like preeclampsia, and inverted uterus, presenting options to a patient, the painful reality of pregnancy and motherhood, what to expect when you’re expecting, and of course Dr. Shaun Murphy’s ability to know everything about medicine all the time.

  • I want to see an EXTREMELY medically accurate tv show where a patient has some weird symptoms that all together point to some rare disease, and our main character just looks them in the eyes and says “Oh, you should just lose some weight” and then concludes the appointment.

When I found out I was pregnant with twins it was the scariest day of my life. I was 8 months pregnant and kept feeling like I was peeing my pants. Turns out the bigger twins water broke, so I was carted away for a C-section. I barely had time for my husband to get to the hospital. Most terrifying experience of my life. They are both healthy and happy now.

The twin thing Dr. Irobunda was talking about was actually extremely interesting, they're literally twins with different birthdays
  • Absolutely love that you allowed her to talk and took the time to learn about the things that she is knowledgeable in. You didn't act like you knew everything and you were excited to learn and grow. You're such a great person, it was amazing to watch 🥺

Dr Irobunda was INCREDIBLE. Really enjoyed listening to her commentary on all this

would love to see more guests who are experts in their given specialties to tag alone on episodes like this. She added great insights and knowledge!

It was awesome to see Dr. Mike start a question with "Why would..." then realize he has the PERFECT person to ask right beside him. I'd love to see more specialist episodes.
  • As someone who is the sibling of a baby who passed right after birth, especially since it was partially due to rh incompatibility, this video hit incredibly hard for me

“How does he know that.” Dr Mike: 👁👄👁 “he’s a magician”

Doctor mike, you should do more episodes like this where the specialist of that particular field give insight about that particular drama scenes. Really love the chit chatting between you and the obgyn doctor. Not too mention, this kind of thing shows that a doctor cant know everything, they always do better as a team.

"Insert a 16 gauge IV" "Um...why don't we just use this central line you had the surgeon put in?"

I have a friend whose mother had a dream while pregnant that she had two eggs in a nest, and a snake ate one of them. I don't know if she knew yet that she was carrying twins. When my friend was born, her twin was stillborn. Sure, it's possible that this was just a coincidence, but I also know that our bodies can know things that we don't. I don't know whether it's medically possible for this to have been more than a crazy coincidence, but it seems likely to me that part of her somehow knew what was happening. Human bodies do weirder things on a regular basis.

I'm a twin, my mom gave birth 2 months earlier than she should have. There were some complications and the doctor made her choose, save herself or either me or my twin, and she said if there's a sliver of a chance for the 3 of us all to live then the doctors should do their best and she'll give her best to hold on. We're all alive & healthy 24 years now :) bless all OBGYNs who fight for their patients even when the all odds are against them.
  • I swear the premise of every medical show that isn't centered around comedy is Murphy's Law. Any medical condition that can happen will happen.

my grandfather was a twin born in the 1920's and the doctor had told his mother to let the smaller twin die and just feed the bigger one. She was stubborn and insisted on raising both and thankfully both survived and my grandfather is still alive now at 98 years of age
  • @shecamo2007
I was born at 28 weeks. My mother had preeclampsia. We both were almost lost. And now 15 years later we are both doing just fine.
  • @meli6785
these shows don’t care about the actual medical stuff because most people that watch it don’t know… they just make it as confusing as possible for the drama lol
  • @poojamohanty957
This was a nice collab. The speech delivery of Dr Mike is generally enthusiastic, energetic. And Dr Heather's talking is calm and soft. This was just like two friends having an informative chat in the breakroom. Liked it.
  • Bring Dr. Irobunda back! She was phenomenal, has great perspective, and is very relatable. Loved hearing from her! If she ever decided to make a Youtube channel I would definitely subscribe.
  • @Scifisam
I love that Doctor Mike called in a consult for his react video. I love seeing how often he asks other doctors questions, googling medical terms, and watching youtube videos on procedures. He's very open about what he doesn't know. He's not afraid to get a little outside help. Doctor Mike is awesome.
