Paul Atreides, the protagonist of the first two Dune movies by Denis Villeneuve, is one of the most fascinating characters that has been put to screen in recent sci-fi movies, thanks to the incredible portrayal by Timotheé Chalamet and obviously the solid foundation of Frank Herbet's novels. The idea to split the first novel in two cinematic chapters gave to Denis and also the actor Timotheé Chalamet to dive deeper into his character, add more nuanches and emotional complexity to the character, and explore with more accuracy his vengeful path and his rise as the Kwisatz Haderach / Lisan al-Gaib.
In this video I kept a good portion of my original suite for Paul Atreides, but I expanded it with the additional music that Hans Zimmer wrote for 'Part Two' and including in this montage a lot of musical elements from my previous Kwisatz Haderach suite and the Holy War theme (featured in "Eclipse" and "Southern Messiah"). Paul's iconic theme has also found a fresh life with the new variations for the film in tracks like "You Fough Well", "Arrival" and "Travel South", all of which convey a visceral, powerful and intimitating tone to the music - and it's perfectly coherent with Paul's development in the movie since he fully embraces his identity as Lisan al-Gaib and leads the Fremen to war against the Harkonnen and the Emperor himself.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • "Lead them to paradise" What a great protagonist, Chalamet's performance as the film progresses improves and improves until reaching points where he imposes, the music, the costumes, his relationship with Chani, Everything is well done, how he doesn't want the prophecy to take over his entire being, and he lets it happen, but in his own way, is Incredible, his character from the moment he drinks the water until the end of the film is Outstanding, and his speech is Cinema

Watching Dune 2 tonight. Ready to get my eyes blasted with sand, and going deaf with ancient chants in 70mm 👍 Bless the maker!

‘I was a friend of Jamis,’ Paul whispered. He felt tears burning his eyes, forced more volume into his voice. ‘Jamis taught me… that… when you kill… you pay for it... I wish I’d known Jamis better.’

I love that a lot of the songs from part 2 feel very cohesive with part 1's OST but the rumbling bass makes it feel more foreboding and ominous.

Thus begins the reign of the Dune Messiah
  • Yes yes, Dune 1&2 are masterpieces and Hans Zimmer has outdone himself with his soundtracks but can we please acknowledge how incredibly well the tracks have been cut together for this video? Kudos to you Tim S. Lucas! 👍
  • “You are vulnerable Muad’Dib. No matter what you do, you cannot escape that fact.” “You’re right about one thing: there is no escape.”
  • Arrival and Only I will remain are true masterpieces. Representing the danger and beauty of a messianic story, from its scary promise, to Paul's realization of what is going to come if he fulfills his duty. Hans Zimmer deserves another Oscar.
