A Chocolate Box Journey down Sandy Lane: ENGLAND'S Enchanting Thatched Cottages

Published 2024-02-18
Journey with me down Sandy Lane, a small picturesque chocolate box village in England. Located in Wiltshire, UK.

The name 'Sandy Lane' is first recorded in 1675; in the next century there were around 20 houses and cottages.

At the 2011 census, the English village had a population of 32 people in 17 households.

St Mary and St Nicholas is a tiny and beautiful church. Made entirely of timber, it has a peaceful and intimate atmosphere, set in a quiet location, surrounded by trees. The church was built in 1896 as a mission church for Sandy Lane. The church is claimed to be unique, as the only thatched, wooden building built as a place of worship in all of England. The original cost was £175 and it was planned to seat 50.

  • It's been difficult trying to capture this footage during less busier times. The village is right along a busy main road. I have even thought about pulling a midnight stroll to dodge the traffic! 😅 The video might kick off a bit noisy with all the cars going by but will swiftly lead off to quieter roads during our walk. Don't forget to like, comment, and share this video with someone 👍

Kevin, will you do me a MASSIVE favour and do this walk again in the Spring or Summer when the leaves are on the trees and the flowers are blooming? Even without them this village is beautiful so with them ... I just can't imagine! Thank you for this lovely walk,Kevin.

The love which shaped and still shapes the landscape seeps into one's heart and mind. This in spite of the traffic at the start. Shakespeare knew what he was talking about when he spoke of "this blessed plot...this England.

The most beautiful English village with the most beautiful and cosy little church I ever seen.

What a great shame these beautiful villages are drowned in traffic now! The lovely thatched houses look so romantic & it only takes imagination to remember how things use to be. Beautiful video & walk. Thankyou.☺️

I absolutely adore thatched cottages, so this video fills my heart with joy. One is even prettier than the next and I find myself wanting to buy nearly all of them, haha. I wanted to suggest the same thing another person in the comments asked: can you do this walk again in summer time? It looks amazing any time time of year, but It would be wonderful to see the beauty of the cottages along the lane with flowers in bloom and lush greenery. Wonderful video, I love it!

Rain or shine, nothing compares to some of the incredible villages, gardens and landscapes you have shown us. Personally, I’ll take the rain and snow anytime.

  • Beautiful little village - very near to where I live. The road can be rather hectic early morning and late afternoon, but worth visiting.
  • @ReginaBarton
Thanks. This is one of the best videos I have ever watched, minus the cars but cannot be helped.
  • @KenHartman152
What an absolutely gorgeous village. I love these thatched roofed cottages! I don't know how long a thatched roof lasts compared to a shingled roof but they sure look fantastic. My Love goes out to the people of Sandy Lane, you have such a beautiful Village & Church! Thanks for another Great Sunday walk in the English countryside Kevin!!!
  • Сказка: поют птицы, так хочется этим насладиться. Спасибо.
