“It does seem as though some information hasn't been given to parliament.”

Former Home Office adviser Claire Pearsall tells #TimesRadio it seems there was a “cover up” by the Conservative government about the reality of public finances and Rachel Reeves has "three months" of "political honeymoon" to keep the public's favour.

  • What is no one talking about the shady VIP lane contracts? Who got the Rwanda contracts? What about the NHS contracts, buying products that are useful to the NHS, was due diligence done before misusing the tax payers money?

Funny how this comes out after the voting

Reeves can simply fix the budget by calling on the French to service their sovereign debt to Treasury. Or sell the debt instead, because hundreds and hundreds of billions of pounds will sort the budget out now and for a long time to come.

the same state they were when Labour left 14 years ago... remember the "no money in the treasury, good luck" note? it's still there
  • @Moira-lr5bp
Why did they promise to do all these things when they must have surely known that there was no guarantee that the books would add up .
  • Just change the law. If people weren't desperate enough to ask for help in France, they should be automatically judged to be not in need of refuge, and refused help here.

By far and away the biggest drain on the Welfare Budget is Public Sector Pensions! The Taxpayer has been picking up this colossal bill for over 30 years. It is completely unsustainable and has the potential to single-handily bankrupt the country! Which is precisely what happened in Greece!!

Paul Johnson of the IFS said that Jeremy Hunt's NI cuts left a £20 billion shortfall in the treasury coffers. Why is Hunt not commenting on that. The Tory government went on and on about putting £900 extra in people's pockets, but nothing was said about the downside of the policy. Now we know why

Stephen Flynn, Owen Jones and Ash Sakar were talking about the £20b black hole months before the election. Can you give me the link where Times Radio went into the detail at the time please 👍

I'm a pensioner & I don't need the winter fuel allowance. Providing the cost of means-testing is less than the savings, I totally support it.
