I was living in the greater Los Angeles region that day (in my childhood home) and can still remember being woken up by the violent shaking.

I woke up just before the quake hit my parakeets were making a ton of noise and jumped out their cage and ran under the dining table..and then it shook hard for a while. They somehow knew. I lived pretty far from the epicenter, but still felt the strong shaking.

Today, 30 years ago at 4:31 a.m. will be the 30th anniversary of the Northridge quake. Those 41 seconds seemed like an eternity.

I was born in 1995, so I was unaware about this but I remember my families talked about that day. My Dad use to deliver newspapers early in the morning, he sprained himself during that earthquake.

Interestingly enough, I was also in the Northridge quake. I was working for a banking company and they sent me down there for training. It was early morning & I was dead asleep-I woke up to people screaming in the courtyard-and I thought they had put me in a hotel that was right next to a train station. It was so loud and shaking, the sound is what you don’t forget. I’m glad I didn’t know what I was going through at the time because it really freaked me out after I found out. When the one hit Seattle I knew exactly what it was….

I Was living in Huntington Beach when this quake happened. I jumped out of bed so fast. The only damage we had was a water pipe on the water heater. But I worked in Pasadena. I managed a Foot Locker. When I got to my store, every pair of shoes in my stock room were on the floor with the majority out of the boxes. My ceiling (t-bar system) was also on the floor. Our counter weighed about 2000 lbs. It moved 3 feet. The Mall was closed for days with some stores closed for weeks.

People in LA today who did not experience this have NO IDEA how violently it shook. So scary.

I just started watching this and then realized today is the 30th anniversary of that scary night. I was 7 years old and remember every moment of the earthquake.

I lived 100 miles north in Santa Barbara and it rolled me out of bed onto the floor.

It was early morning after I needed to go to work in Payless Shoes; now closed all stores, it was scary the after shocks the racks moved intensely.

I was 4 when this happened. Still remember my dad grabbing me from my bed and carrying my brother and I downstairs underneath a large wooden desk he owned. Startling thing to wake up to an earthquake. Thankfully nothing happened, usually nothing does.
