Snap Monetization is killing Free to Play players!

Published 2024-03-13
The lack of Gold Bundles and the excessive amount of cash bundles is putting a bad taste in player's mouths. I enjoyed playing on my free to play account, but that's over. I hope the Free2Play base has some great things coming to is.

Shoutout to @AlexanderCoccia for bringing the much needed attention to this topic. Rewatching this, I think Cozy is genuinely in a hard spot and is hurting from this. We all are. Respect for you both. Keep it up!

  • Cozy’s defense was completely expected. Word for word I could already tell where he was going with what he was saying. Smh

Coccia's talking point surprised me a lot, and he got my respect back for it. He made a video a long time ago defending all the BS Second Dinner was saying. He basically said to "give them a break," and talked about them being a "small company," and blah blah blah. Seeing him speak up against them was great.

i dont pay any money into this game, no bundles, no season pass, i am series 3 complete im missing like 20 cards and i cant complain about the progress with carefull planning, but then they fucking change spotlights in the last second for which i planned for for months now and thats what pisses me off

As an exclusively F2P Player, I've felt mostly that I am able to build almost any deck I want if I am picky about cards I get. The last few months I have generally felt less and less interested in keeping up, and I couldn't pinpoint why. I think you've broken it down really well, and focusing on Coccia's points helped a lot. I have a stockpile of Gold (and credits and keys as well honestly) and have no clue when to use any of them, and I find myself watching Coccia's videos on his review of every card to see if I want to spend or not.
  • they are putting out way too many cards, it is hard to keep up as f2p or even low spender. Then it is quite frustrating to see all the big streamers get every new card instantly while you miss more and more key cards. But whatever still a nice casual fun. Also spotlight caches tend to give me variants all the time xD

As a non-f2p player, I feel like I can't even keep up, I can't imagine what it's like as a f2p player. The monetization is atrocious, the card acquisition is shady. I'm not even a marvel fan, I got into the game because of the mechanics, so I imagine given how popular marvel/superheroes are, the game could do just fine financially without being scummy.

It's great that those content creators want to give constructive criticism but unfortunately the company doesn't and won't care at all. They're not interested in making a good product, they're interested in maximizing profits. The ONLY way you will see backpedal on this monetization is if it ends up making them less money. Unfortunate.

The cost for 1 card is 500 pesos at cheapest, then 3000 to 6000 ea in my country And you can feed a family for 2 days for 500. And THOSE cards are usually the Meta cards/OP cards that are new and arent nerfed.
  • @Toxxic1890
This is exactly what i put in the feedback survey they sent out. There's just no chance to keep up with META decks which are WAY to strong and destroy everything you can reasonable obtain as F2P
  • Alex has become the only Snap content creator that I actively watch and subscribe to for this reason. He seems like the only one not just saying something about this issue but actively bringing it up and pushing for us free to play players that don't have much of a voice. I watch his streams and he brings it up every stream.

CL 3900, my "For You" bundle was Deadpool and some credits or whatever else it came with for $75 lmfao. Absolute joke.
  • @penguinwarcry
I had a blast going through series 1 and 2 but man that wall you hit entering series 3. The one time I spent money was on Mrs. Marvel and started having a blast again but then she got tweaked and I couldn't keep up with any of the other new cards that continued to come out. That's what made me mad, I actively spent money on a card that fit what I was having fun with and then it got changed, I no longer have trust in paying for cards.
  • @mchlup
TLDR for Legends of Runeterra: It was easy to obtain all the cards in the game if you were a dedicated F2P player. The only monetization was cosmetic i.e. cardbacks, character skins, and playmats where your cards were put down. However, one thing that Cozy didn't bring up was the long breaks between patches so certain decks/cards were unbalanced. That's what actually hurt the game, people stopped playing ranked and shifted towards Path of Legends (a rogue-like single player mode). The lack of a good ranked mode hurt the game and people stopped playing/took a break and focused on single player. In Snap, it would be similar to the Zabu/Surfer season, were only 2 decks were viable for a long ass time.

I've lost so much respect for Cozy and gained so much for Alex over the past year. Seeing Cozy start from the beta and looking forward to his videos and then seeing him and Dexster in the season videos, hosting tournaments, having way too many god splits and also knowing the creator program gives you 500 gold a month, etc and then just now watched Alex open 100 caches and seeing his passion really puts Cozy on the side of cringe.
  • @fitzciaran
For me, I don't really mind how many paid bundles exist and how much they cost, it's more about what the experience is like for f2p vs sp vs whale, and what the access to meta decks is like for those groups. If f2p had more access and more agency over card acquisition, then it wouldn't matter how much cosmetic items the whales have, it's the fact that those many paid bundles are necessary to keep pace with the meta even more so with the progression value of the gold bundles when they do appear.

21:00 Glenn Jones is not co-founder of SD. He wasn't even on team at launch iirc, he joined few months after. Besides that, good video.
  • Cozy takes his criticism really careful, I feel like he fears lose his close relationship with SD. And it sucks look him defending predatory mobile tactics.
  • @user-ok6ky7qv9k
The greed is astounding, and he's right. Not just this game bureven console game's
  • @mr.dominion8049
Man, I miss LOR such a good game, but I guess you need to have greedy monetization to survive.
  • @valenetta8017
Thanks for coming out and sharing your perspective on this, if FTPs speak out against the change in monetization there can be great change here
