The Standing Stones (Original song) - Sam Wiccan

I decided Anachronomicon should have at least one song with a straightforward verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus structure, something with a beat that you can dance to.
So anyway, here's a 10 minute epic with over 50 time signature changes.

Lyrics:
We dance among the standing stones
From dusk 'til misty morn
Just like our fathers danced a hundred years 'ere we were born
'Tis not for us to say what men erected them or why
But afore the gods we're going to keep on dancing 'til we die.

A fisherman, he told us of an isle across the sea
Where stood a ring of stones which seemed to whisper in the breeze.
He took me on his boat so I could see with my own eyes.
Beneath the stormy skies
I heard the ancient cries.

And we danced among the standing stones
From dusk 'til misty morn
Just like our fathers danced a hundred years 'ere we were born
'Tis not for us to say what men erected them or why
But afore the gods we're going to keep on dancing 'til we die.
We danced when we were civilised
as we danced when we were free.
We danced before the thunder
And we danced beneath the trees
And when we take our final steps upon this mortal plane
We know our sons will keep on dancing in their fathers' name.

The voices told me
"You must sail into the setting sun,
And end the dance the ancients had begun."
I found a ship to take me with a staunchly loyal crew
And sailed away, over endless blue.
For thirty days, the gods did grant a breeze to fill our sails
Behind the clouds the stars were barely veiled.
With dread I woke to find our godly boon had gone awry.
All was still, 'neath a starless sky.

The world stands still
In the haze we did not see
The sickness that befell the crew
Was but their loyalty gone askew.

They took their lives
So that we might all arrive
A pact the seamen made
Our will betrayed
A mutinous suicide.

I told the captain,
"Weigh the anchor
Turn this ship around!"
"My friend", he said
"Thy destiny's to find that hallowed ground
And if we all must die that you might
See the blessed stones
We'll carry you alone
Upon our very bones

And we'll dance among the standing stones
From dusk 'til misty morn
Just like our fathers danced
A hundred years 'ere we were born
'Tis not for us to say what men erected them or why
But afore the gods we're going to keep on dancing 'til we die
We danced when we were civilised
As we danced when we were free
We danced before the thunder
And we danced beneath the trees
And when we take our final steps upon this mortal plane
We know our sons will keep on dancing in their fathers' name.

Still
Not a breeze
On the endless sea
No sense of time
At the mercy of the tide

Death
Coming near
No more food
or water
Each night awaking
From dreams of slaughter.

When my mind was all but lost
I reached the promised land
I left my ship behind me and
I rowed onto the sand
Following the voice I spied
The stones I'd chased so far
Within the ring I saw
A world so full of stars

And I danced among the standing stones
From dusk 'til misty morn
Just like our fathers danced a hundred years 'ere we were born
'Twas not for me to say what men erected them or why
But that day it was my destiny to dance until I died.
We danced when we were civilised
As we danced when we were free
We danced before the thunder
And we danced beneath the trees
And when I took my final steps upon this mortal plane
I knew my sons would keep on dancing in their father's name.

  • Great song Sam! I dig the Irish Influence! I know how much courage it takes to write and upload original songs cause I do the same. Youtube always recommends me other random originals like this which I think are fun to check out. Keep up the awesome work man! (:
