17:11 it's because mud blocks are not a full block. SO,hopper can collect items through mud blocks just like how hoppers can collect items through slabs

13:06 For most spots where you need water in one stable spot like a static water source, you might be able to use mangrove roots. Those should allow water inside without spilling out. Seen people use them for things like lining a tnt chamber that blows up cobblestone or logs for collecting below. Just a thought. Might work with leaves as well, but I’m not close enough to my computer to check.
