Impressive how Valve kept this a secret until the press review day.
  • @gnifer
LTT had more communication with Valve for this review than Valve typically has with the public in a year.
  • From Valves point of view, everything about this is fucking genius. They can reuse almost everything they already manufactured (new base model is basically just stock of the old models) and dont break compatibility with most stuff most people care about and make the experience a lot better for everyone. Really nicely done! I‘m honestly super impressed with this, and that‘s not even primarily looking at the actual improvements to the device.

It's amazing how great companies can be when they focus on satisfying consumers, not shareholders
  • @audigex
I love Steam's dedication to customers. Everything changed here is EXACTLY what we've been asking for, even down to the metal screw housings. The only thing I don't like is the fact I bought mine a couple of months ago...
  • @aidansky55
A moment of silence for those who just bought a normal steam deck recently.

13:19 For what it's worth, I like that Valve actually explained their design decisions. Between that, the unlocked bootloader, the improvements to repairability and their countless contributions to free/libre open source software, they show a lot of good faith for their customer base as a whole.
  • @EpicValleysStill
The fact that they made their product to be serviced and modded by the end user is amazing. Unlike everyone else who uses special screws and absurd amounts of adhesive. Great looking unit
  • @Vandel212
It really blows my mind that so many other handheld makers put 1080p, 1200p, etc... screens in these handhelds when the resolution increase isn't that noticeable, but severely impacts other arguably more important aspects of the device like performance and battery life.
  • @Vienna3080
Valve is absolutely killing it in the hardware space Thank god they are open source and pro right of repair
  • @CameronTacklind
I appreciate the new charts very much. The highlighting is very helpful. I hope you iterate more on it as I think there are plenty of improvements to be had.
  • @Carstuff111
I am not going to complain about minor upgrades that make life better, allow older accessories to still be used and it does not cost (much) more than the original. And what they are doing for gaming on Linux is impressive as hell.
  • @MysteryMii
I think the big thing to come from this is the price drop of the 256GB LCD model. The $399 model is now actually usable without having to spend extra for a microSD card or another SSD to replace the one it comes with, and it really puts pressure on the competition to either drop prices or to figure out how to justify their higher prices.
  • @jeremywp123
One cool thing you didn't mention is that apparently the screen can now be removed without taking the steam deck apart to the same extent. This should make repairing the device and doing case swaps much easier.
  • @PHIplaytesting
The jump from 60 to 90 Hz on the display is something that should not be overlooked.
  • @SelecaoOfMidas
Released at an ideal time after the Legion Go, which gives competition to the ROG Ally (the Extreme Z1 SKU), and now we can see all the best these can offer before Christmas. If I hadn't bought a gaming laptop already, now I'm waiting for this one to come out before choosing one or the other.
  • @matytomek3574
A review less than a minute after the announcement? Yessir. Edit as comments pointed out: embargo
  • @Ac3sdg
This makes me incredibly happy. Mainly because with valve aiming for HDR on the steamdeck there is a chance for better HDR support to trickle down into other linux distros.
  • @MintyWindTV
I bought mine back in April rip luckily it still works amazing and I love it. I'll just wait another year or two before upgrading.
