Baltimore City is suing the owners and managers of the Dali, the cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, causing it to collapse and killing six construction workers.
The lawsuit claims the owners of the Dali were negligent in letting the ship leave the Port of Baltimore without failing to fix known power problems. The ship left the port around 12:45 a.m. and crashed into the Key Bridge around 1:30 a.m. Eight construction workers were repairing potholes on the bridge during the crash, which knocked them into the Patapsco River. Two were rescued, four have been recovered and two more remain missing and are presumed dead. Baltimore City is asking the U.S. District Court of Maryland for a jury trial, and is seeking to hold the owners fully liable for the Key Bridge collapse
The City of Baltimore has said that the owner and manager of the cargo ship that brought down the Francis Scott Key Bridge last month are directly responsible for the accident and should not be allowed to avoid legal liability, according to court documents filed.

What about the Feds being accountable for not retro fitting the bridge with protection that is now required for all bridges in shipping channels. Who is responsible for not having a tug escort in the shopping channel?
  • No one is paying attention to maintenance being done on ships or planes. Look at this disaster , people lives dead, a huge bridge gone. Look at all the work power that is being done and taken time to do. Why do this issues not being updated and if not penalize take away their duties, work, and fine them. Sue them.
  • Going to add my two cents to this case! I've lived in the Southeast Asian territories for more than 10 years! after my time over here I can be sure they would find that poor maintenance is to blame! I see vehicles, such as busses, ships and other transportation systems that are operated by the same society that run these ships! GO to India, Malaysia, Indonesia and even Singapore and see very neglected maintenance of transport vehicles of many sizes and types! Not to offend but these Asian countries have apparent no regulations regarding the maintenance of commercial vehicles! Or it's a case of looking the other way when there could be an inspection, money tends to have a voice! but tells no stories!

ABSOLUTELY! The company that owns the boat. They knew it was defective, and kept operating it. Pay the bill.
