I know that some of these effects aren't EXACTLY what's in the anime, but the effects weren't consistent in the show, either, and this is my interpretation of them as best I can :)
  • If Ra had all its anime effects, the card would just read "(See page 7-93 of current rulebook)"
  • @Cheesusful
They tried to print the Egyptian god cards as they existed in the anime but the artists all died in mysterious circumstances so they released the knock offs instead

I always wished that they'd just retrain the god cards to have them have effects more in-line with their anime versions, but with the amount of spell and trap cards they've made that are meant to "give" them their anime effects that seems like a pipe dream at this point, tho maybe someday.

Fun fact: In the game Yugioh World Championship 2007 (might also have been 2008) you could download Marik's duel ghost, which posessed The Winged Dragon of Ra. That Ra actually did have the tribute effect.
  • @PricefieldPunk
Winged Dragon of RA's effect of if you play a token that's named Winged Dragon of RA, both players will be struck by lightning. First player to regain consciousness wins the match, if neither player can awaken after 10 minutes, duel is a draw.
  • Uploading this video 3 times to reference having to tribute 3 monsters to summon these. Clever Doug.

    FINAL REUPLOAD, I PROMISE

Legit they could probably print most of these effects now as retrained versions like "Egyptian god: Obelisk The Tormentor" so it would still work the support cards. I think the problem would be how do they top the original art? Those pictures are so iconic to the series.
  • "So in the anime only chosen duelists are allowed to even play these cards, you're supposed to have a link to the distant past. And obviously this would be difficult and maybe impossible to translate to the actual cards" the way i started cracking up thank you mr. zeeff

I remember one detail about Obelisk's Raigeki-like eff in the anime that made it insanely dangerous, and they even stayed by consistent with it by showing it's effect semi-competitively in Dark Side of Dimensions. In the show and movie, it didn't just blow away all of your opponent's monsters, it "inflicts" 4000 points of battle damage onto all monsters your opponent controlled, while also destroying them in battle, and THEN inflicted 4000 additional life points of effect(?) damage to your opponent. It's basically a more convoluted way of saying that Obelisk attacks and instantly destroys everything on the opponent's board after damage calculation, while also being invincible in battle, and also preventing you from taking battle damage. Add on to the fact that this is a Quick Effect, and that has to be one of the most busted field clearing effects/OTK enablers I've ever seen on a card.

You forgot Ra's most powerful effect, it can attack the turn it's summoned with its effect of INSTANT ATTACK
  • You know, when I saw a video about egyptian gods in my notification I thought it was April first already and you would try to convince us they are good 😅

I remember being really surprised when people where saying how bad the Egyptian Gods were when I started duel links. They were crazy in the anime, right. I didn't know they had printed weak knockoffs. Pretty much like they did in the anime too lol, when they tried to make bootleg RA
  • @Roge9
"Can't be destroyed by card effects,, unaffected by most effects" Wow these cards would age pretty well in modern yugioh lol
  • Funny how Obelisk in the TCG can tribute himself to his effect, it says "Tribute 2 monsters" not "tribute 2 other monsters" lol
  • @Cardlimits
for those who want it summed up. all 3 are unaffected by monster effects, except divine beast monster effects. unaffected by spell and traps that have them leave the field. controller of the card cannot be switched, opponent cannot tribute them. if they are special summoned from graveyard or banished, they go back to graveyard on end phase. from hand they stay obelisk can tribute two other monsters to either destroy all monsters on the field and 4k damage to the opponent, or gain infinite attack for one turn. slifer is pretty similar to real life, except monsters summoned in defense mode lose 2k defense and will be destroyed if zero. also zero attack monsters will be destroyed on summon. ra has the maju garzette ability in it's effect. but when special summoned from the grave it has the following it is unaffected by card effects, an you take no damage involving your opponents attacks on this card. you can pay all but 1 life point to add to it's attack, you can also tribute other monsters on the field to add it's attack and defense to ra's stats respectively, ra can attack all monsters, once each, and the opponent directly. pay 1000 life points to destroy one monster on the field, ignoring all other card effects. that's pretty much the core of them
  • @lucaslennan3356
I always thought it was funny that people argued you couldn't kaiju the God cards considering they tribute and Kaiba literally tributes Obelisk. It literally happens in the anime and people have their heads so far up their own *** that they ignore it and call them invincible to everything.
  • @breadeater1194
The Obelisk Raigeki effect also, if I recall the DSOD movie correctly, deals 4000 LP effect damage and doesn't stop Obelisk from attacking.
