Snow glitters along the branches of the trees, and the windows of the restaurants glow like warm portals, each one decorated with festive greenery and lights. Inside, you can see people eating, drinking, and making merry, faces shining with joy. You feel inspired…you have some Christmas cards to write, perhaps you should find a cozy spot to finish them? You step into the warmth of a cafe, the doorbell cheerily announcing your arrival. A rush of warm air embraces you, a welcome shock after the crisp chill of the snowy street. The cafe is lovingly decorated. Stockings hang sweetly above the crackling wood stove. Lights and garlands are draped around the room, snowy winter scenes festoon the shelves and windowsills, and the tree in the corner gives off a magical glow. It feels homey, cozy, safe. In the display case, brightly colored Christmas cookies and buns are laid out for the perusing, and the warming smells of coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, and peppermint swirl in the air, filling your soul with sweetness. You settle in to watch the snow fall. The street is quiet, punctuated only by the occasional car driving extra slowly down the snowy road, and a few stray pedestrians who seem in no hurry at all. Outside the window, a snowman on the sidewalk holds a hand up in greeting to the snowman on the other side of the street. This is magic. This is joy.
