The main reason why the A-10 has been seriously upgraded, apart from the fact it is very effective, is the OMG moment when they saw just how friggin' expensive the F-35 is.

I do not know why there are critics of the A-10. No plane is perfect, but I would feel confident with it around for support.

Sorry to point out, but the A10 is not a fighter, it is a Close Air Support aircraft. probably couldn't survive against a fighter like the F-16 F-35 or any other true fighter jet.

It is not an "fighter jet" the A would tell you that, unlike the F-35 the F-16 pr the F-22 etc. A like AV8B A-10 are attack aircraft used for CAS.

An F-35 TRYING to do what the A-10 doe so well will result in very expensive losses and/or repairs to the F-35. CAN the F-35 hit ground targets? Yes but the speed will distribute the beaten zone to a greater extent and less focused on the objective. They do not race Lamborghinis and Ferraris on dirt roads for the same reason. I wonder if the F-35 mission planners are confusing stealth with invisibility.
