Assassin's Creed Syndicate is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft. It was released on October 23, 2015, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on November 19, 2015, for Microsoft Windows. It is the ninth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and the successor to 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity.

The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with liberty, and the Templars, who desire peace through order. The framing story is set in the 21st century and follows the same unnamed and unseen protagonist from Assassin's Creed Unity, who helps the Assassins locate an artifact hidden in London. The main story is set in Victorian era London and follows twin Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye as they navigate the corridors of organised crime, and take back the city from Templar control.

The game is played from a third-person perspective and its open world is navigated on foot or by carriage. The game introduces new travelling systems and refined combat and stealth mechanics. Players control the two lead protagonists throughout the game's story, switching between them both during and outside of missions.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate received positive reviews, with praise for its visuals, characters, narrative, and level design. However, the combat, open-world design and vehicle gameplay were met with some criticism. Assassin's Creed Syndicate was nominated for multiple awards, including Best Action/Adventure at The Game Awards 2015. It was followed in October 2017 by Assassin's Creed Origins, which introduces a new storyline in the modern day and has its main plot set in Ptolemaic era Ancient Egypt.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is an action-adventure, stealth game played from a third-person perspective, that features similar gameplay elements to the previous games in the series. Players complete quests—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress through the story. Outside of quests, the player can freely roam the open world. Composed of the greater area of Victorian London, consisting of seven boroughs,[a] the world of Assassin's Creed Syndicate is much larger than previous entries in the series.[b] The player can also perform side missions, which were designed to reflect the fight for power in London, and are cohesive to the game's main story.[3] In keeping with a historical context that more closely resembles the modern-day, the city guard of previous iterations is replaced by a Victorian-era police force, who will rarely attack the player unless a crime is committed in their presence; the player's main enemy is instead a Templar-controlled street gang called the "Blighters."

The game lets the player control two characters: twins Jacob and Evie Frye.[4] Jacob is a hot-headed brawler, specialising in close-ranged combat,[5] while Evie is strong in stealth and relies on her intelligence and wit.[5][6] Additionally, Evie is the first playable female protagonist of the main series.[6][c] The main weapons of Syndicate include brass knuckles, a compact revolver, a cane-sword, and the traditional Nepalese curved kukri knife.[7] The game also introduces new systems to navigate the world: a rope launcher, which allows the player to rappel up structures, or create a zip-line between buildings;[8] carriages, which can be piloted or simply occupied by the player, and can be the setting of fights and parkour chases;[5][9] and a train, which serves as the main base for the player throughout the game.[10]

Wait... Rogue is the first AC game I didn't buy because I've never played it 😅 When I saw Desmond the dog for the first time I could not believe it, what an absolute meme 😅 Also I did not give myself time to play the WWI sequence or the DLC. I know I know I know I'm a bad person. Maybe I'll play them and then do some kind of big DLC review at some point? Maybe rank the DLCs? Is that too much ranking? Can someone rank too much? 🤔

It was never a bad game, I think alot of people was just sick of AC games at the time
  • @rohailaamir9343
Idk what it is. There is something about the world design. Something about the atmosphere of victorian era London combined with the music that gives me this comfy feeling. Making me want to come back to play it. It's not without its fault but it's the video game equivalent of good box of fries. Idk. Just how it feels.

Considering what the AC series has turned into now it really makes you appreciate Syndicate a hell of alot more!
  • I think the rope launcher was literally a perfect addition. It is necessary for parkour, as you mentioned, but it also fits SO well into the setting of the Industrial Revolution. Innovation and rapid progress are characteristics of the Industrial Revolution, which the rope launcher perfectly reflects. The soundtrack was just so good, I loved it. Also, the reason you only have a small selection of weapons is, that openly carrying weapons was illegal at the time, so it makes sense that you use knives cane swords and knuckles.

I still don’t understand why people say syndicate doesn’t feel like assassins creed, feels like textbook creed to me
  • Syndicate is truly underrated for me! I love the Victorian era the Jack the Ripper DLC in particular, although I must admit the celebrity characters were overplayed. Assassination missions were some of the most fun we’ve had in the entire series, London is an absolute spectacle to behold. I actually really liked Jacob and Evie as a pair of assassin is working together but disagreeing over how they should actually go about it I thought that was a unique and fresh approach for the games, Evie definitely needed more story time and I almost always played as her in the open world. I think there was a huge missed opportunity to not have an achievement in this game called Frogger for making it across the Thames by jumping and not landing into the water at all

I love this game particularly because of the tone, the setting, the feelings it gives you when you play. The parkour is simple but I think it does the job. London feels alive, it feels active, moving, and it feels like it is part of a much bigger world. I honestly like Jacob because of his funny and sarcastic tone. The over the top action/combat, the fast paced music, the quick witty and not to be taken seriously dialogue, it just feels like a Guy Ritchie movie for me.

Syndicate was the first AC game I ever played and I absolutely loved it. After watching this video, I understand how long time AC fans may have found it to be unfaithful to the original creed style. But from a person who didn’t have any understanding of AC when playing through syndicate, I thought this was a really really fun game.
  • @NasrAllah9988
To be fair it was pretty good at the time, the atmosphere was incredible and the characters were interesting, it just felt too short
  • @luispagan9170
Thing is there is NO ASSASSIN influence in London, it's a Templar stronghold and you got two low level Assassin rebels breaking the rules to take on the Templars so the plot doesn't facilitate a traditional creed experience, that being said I like the concept and execution well enough. It stands well enough on it's own and there is enough Templar vs Assassin's to keep it interesting imo
  • @alexpor763
A thing i liked very much about Syndicate and it's usually overlooked, is the homage they paid to the first AC game, were when they killed a Templar, they dipped a handkerchief in the targets blood, to comconfirm the kill, much like what Altair did with the eagles feather in the first game
  • @Circiely
The atmosphere both Unity and Syndicate displayed are the best to date tbh 🤷‍♀️ The dreary, hostile and gloomy chants and riots that happen just on the street below your feet in Unity just ingrain on your mind. And the trilling violin and train whistles along with the shouting newspaper boys sets the smoggy, and inspirational air of industrial London in Syndicate.
  • @cvprasad9620
The most frustrating thing about Syndicate is, there are no badass chase missions at river Thames. Its a huge missed opportunity!!!
  • @bol8122
Damn I’m surprised he didn’t like Jacob I love his cocky personality
  • My favorite part about this game was the incredable music track. It makes you feel like you are in the time and its beautiful.
  • It's extremely funny to me that Jacob is basically the only one that makes the plot go on. Almost every sequence is "Jacob goes and kills off a Templar without giving a crap what outcome it'll have for London, Evie tries to fix the problems that arose from the time Jacob did this last sequence and looks around for a Piece of Eden", most of what Evie does is fixing the messes Jacob makes while pulling the plot on his back
  • @froggeh3036
I thought this game was underrated, not badly received. I personally like Syndicate more than Unity.
  • @thihaaung647
Was it really that bad? You should ask this to Origin, Odyssey and Valhalla. Syndicate was the last real AC game for me. All new combat system with badass multi-kill combos, no godly powers and no RPG elements. Just a unique AC game I always wanted.
  • Syndicate is by far my favorite AC. It plays the lore of Assassin’s Creed so we’ll, the gameplay is revolutionary in terms of parkour, combat, and gadgets, and is just overall so compelling. If Ubisoft is going back to this sort of gameplay instead of pure RPG, it would be a smarter and fantastic move
