The new Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch7 have been making some waves in the smartwatch space, but many are wondering if they are actually the better choice, or if last year’s Galaxy Watch6 or Watch6 classic are still good options. Furthermore, despite many major upgrades, there is one massive downgrade Samsung didn’t mention, and for some people, that will make the previous generation the superior buy. That… plus the physical rotating bezel and some other features I’ll discuss in this video. So this is going to be a comprehensive comparison between the latest Galaxy Watch lineup.

ADDITIONAL VIDEO NOTES:
$649 Galaxy Watch Ultra
Titanium
Extra button
New bioactive sensor with 2.5x LEDs
New dual band GPS for enhanced accuracy
New features and software
Newer, faster chip
330 ft water resistance (10ATM, others are 5ATM)

$299 - $379 Watch7
Armor aluminum
Mostly the same as the Ultra, but with a few missing features we’ll discuss

$329 - $399 Watch6 Classic
Stainless steel is harder, more durable, but heavier
Rotating bezel

$209 - $289 Watch6
Armor aluminum

Note - there are two more options that I’m not covering in this video. The very new Galaxy Watch FE is $199, essentially the same price as the Watch6 but with a small display, less RAM, a smaller battery, and other older specs. Much like the Galaxy Watch 5.

Secondly, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro which only has 2 more years of support. It’s selling for $299 now but it has a smaller display and really the only benefit is the battery life and titanium build. It’s a good option for some people, but the Watch Ultra really superior.

Fundamental differences
Battery life (6/6Classic/7 all have same 425mAh battery, Ultra has 590)
100 hr battery in power saving mode - I still think OnePlus does this best

Sizes & configurations:
Ultra is the only one without configurations. Always LTE & 47mm, but 3 colors

Watch7 = 40 or 44mm, LTE or non-LTE, 3 colors

Watch6 is the same, 3 colors

Watch6 Classic = 43 or 47mm, LTE or non-LTE, 2 colors

We’ll get to the downgrades of the newest generation in a minute, but first, one of the big upgrades - the accuracy for fitness tracking

HR ACCURACY TEST

GPS ACCURACY TEST

APP SPEED TEST
Exynos W1000 (5 core 3nm) vs Exynos W930 (dual core 5nm)
32GB vs 16GB
Bluetooth 5.3 vs 5.2

NEGATIVES
Watch Ultra has proprietary watch connector - dynamic lug
My thoughts on it
Limited selection

Watch Ultra and Watch7 do not have Qi and cannot charge on the back of your phone

FEATURES
Energy score
AI smart replies
Wellness tips
More advanced sleep coaching & sleep apnea detection
New workout modes for the Ultra - race mode, multisport mode
Maximum cycling sustain power or FTP can be measured in 10 minutes

Pre-workout start screens - this was rolled as an update

Double pinch gestures
Fall detection
Knock knock
Emergency siren - audible up to 180m, up to 85dB (on Ultra)
Track Back for hiking

SIMILARITIES
Display same on all
Sapphire crystal on all
Watch7 & 6 are the same size, weight, dimensions, strap connection

  • Lots of testing and research went into making this video. Before anyone gets upset in the comments, I want to add two disclaimers. First, I only showed the Watch6 and Watch7 in the HR & GPS test. That is because the 7 & Ultra have the same hardware, and the 6 & 6 Classic have the same hardware. Also, I wanted to ensure the highest degree of accuracy possible. Wearing two watches per wrist would risk significant error. Secondly, I am fully aware that the default workout start page modifications were already updated for the older watches. I meant to say that, but it just came out wrong in the video. Thanks for watching!

Finally, someone who has compared the galaxy watch 6 to the watch 7 properly, and someone who has experienced both and is not just stating details of the specs

I regret to inform you that you might be underestimating the Galaxy 5 Pro, which is the best competitor and has a comparable battery life to the less appealing Ultra, despite the claim of two years of software updates. In my view, a practical lifespan for any smartwatch is around 2 to 3 years. Additionally, it's disappointing that Samsung still limits support for their smartwatches to only 4 years. Furthermore, restricting features like ECG and blood pressure monitoring to Samsung mobile users is regrettable and feels monopolistic. Regarding aesthetics, I find the Ultra quite unattractive. The regular Watch 7 is more visually appealing, and if battery life is a concern, the Galaxy 5 Pro is a better option. Lastly, for those who prefer a refined look, the Watch 6 Classic is an excellent choice.
  • @corey7219
When your new watch 7 only lasts 20 hours on a single charge, no aod, While the watch 6 gets a day and 20 hours, same settings, you know something's wrong
  • @Azillamusic
5 pro is just built different, still the goat in every way possible including its current price
  • @skyrim2972
I think 6 classic is the one I’m choosing It’s probably the best one for now
  • @9abe9
WHY, SAMSUNG, WHY KILL THE ROTATING BEZEL?? The coolest, most diferenciating feature!
  • I just got the Watch6 for ÂŁ110 and it's well worth that, the prices you can find for a series that's only a year old is wild
  • @paulkline3011
I'm sticking with my 6 classic and hoping for an 8 classic upgrade next year.
  • @karandeengar
13:48 I've heard its the bio sensors on the new watches. They can't do reverse charging.
  • @DirtCheapFU
For those that arent familiar with the "FE" term, when it comes to Samsung(and some other brands), FE is Fan Edition. Basically, it's the same as the cheaper re-hash of older hardware in a newer body. Apple does the same thing with SE, but Samsung does it cheaper lol. Take requests from fan favorite features and place it in the new body type which is usually cheaper and lighter in weight. Sometimes current generation, non-flagship, Camera configuration.
  • @Omarking101
If you have the watch 6 or even 5Pro, you don't need the 7.
  • @dusans292
You should have included the 5 pro. The ultra is like a 5 pro but with a siren. They have the same battery size. Titanium build. But the 5 pro is substantially lighter
  • @sallan990
I've still got my 6 classic,a beautiful watch, and that rotating bezel, it's still king, and a few more years of support it's a no brainerđź‘Śđź‘Ť
  • @jackcactus1
you can't reverse wireless charge because of the new advanced bio sensor, so it is hardware
  • @PolyBex
Watch6 is getting the energy score and also actually got sleep apnea a week before the release of the Watch7 :)
  • I've been using the Watch 6 Classic since October, and the design of the watch is beautiful. The rotating bezel really is the best feature.
  • Still happy with the 5Pro. Maybe I'll get the 8. Hopefully, that will get the rotating bezel too. With this design flip-flopping, you'll never know.
  • @black.bird.
7:00 I like how the watch itself is legless. It's not protruding from the sides making it big for small wrist, this is a plussss
