Billy the Kid was one of the more infamous outlaws in the American wild west. He was known as a teenage gunslinger that few would dare cross. Don Sweet owns the museum dedicated to his legend in the town where he too was shot in an ambush, then remains buried to this day in the Pecos River Valley south of Fort. Sumner, New Mexico. #MuseumTour #WildWest #FortSumnerNewMexico #TravelNewMexico #AmericanHeartlands

  • I was thrilled when Don Sweet agreed to give us a guided tour of the museum portion dedicated to Billy the Kid. In the next segment, I will take us through the rest of this very large museum complex.

This is so good. My granddad Benjamin Franklin Wood was also born in 1859 and was friends with Billy in Ft Sumter. Granddad ran a barber shop there but also in his small business you could get a tooth pulled and or a bowl of soup. We heard many a story of the short man Billy.
  • Thanks for sharing! I came to this museum in 2013 with my dad and it was fantastic! I went back in 2017/2018 and it was closed. So I’m glad to see it’s back up and running. This place is a treasure.

Stopped on my way back from Las Vegas. In April of 2022 . Spent about 2-3 hours there. Very nice people didn’t rush you out. So much history there and the grave yard just down the way. Good time. Great little town of history
