I remember watching this game as a young 12yr old Māori boy in NZ. Biggest upset in rugby league history. I’ve still got the poster from the NZ Herald on my wall.

Biggest upset in league history, even bigger than when Tonga beat Australia. especially when you factor in that Aussie lineup, the fact that it was in Brisbane, and that Australia were pumping teams by 50 in the lead-up.

This was one of the highest and lowest nights of my life. Amazing game going nuts at the tv, then got a call that my grandpa had died during second half. Kiwis made my night that little bit more easier ❤

at the time, pundits and "experts" were calling this the greatest Kangaroo team of all time. They were 8 to 1 favourites. The New Zealanders were given no chance at all.

This game taught me a valuable lesson: ALWAYS support your team no matter what. I had no faith in them for this game so I didn’t watch it. Biggest sporting regret of my life. I’ve never missed a televised final of any NZ team in any sport since.
